I am not normally one for biographies nor am I interested in sailing very much. With The Vendee Globe race about to start for 2008 I thought it would be interesting to hear about the race from one who has completed it. I am not sure what I was expecting, but this book gave me so much more. I was inspired by this young ladies tenacity, dedication and sheer determination. She is also clearly a talented writer. She moved me to tears on a number of occasions.
this one really touched a cord with me. I hope you enjoy t too.
This was an honest and emotional book written by a very special lady. It was a gripping listen and an excellent choice of reader. I recommend this sailors and landlubbers alike and look forward to purchasing Ellen's next book.
Better than average + would be a good guide.
The feeling of adventure and Ellen's tenacity.
Yes - for inspiration
Ellen - she is so determined and honest
This book made me want to find my sea legs!
I've had a soft spot for Ellen MacArthur for a while, I am similar age to her and was living in France when she completed the Vendee Globe 2001 - the French went crazy for her, it was exciting to see someone my age accomplish so much.
And yet I found the audiobook very disappointing, it was a good description of events but I wanted more from it - the passion, the fear, the feelings that are stirred up when a peer is in danger... to me that was all missing. I didn't warm to the characters around her - perhaps the audiobook lost something by not having the photos a book would.
What a shame.
