Grinding It Out: The Making of McDonald's is Ray Kroc's rags-to-riches story of how he built the fast-food behemoth McDonald's from the ground up. Kroc narrates his life story and demonstrates how the grit and determination he used as a paper cup salesman led him through a series of twists and turns to meet the McDonald brothers, Richard and Maurice, who were running a successful hamburger stand in San Bernardino, California. From there, he constructed one of the world's most successful franchise systems and built an empire that continues to dominate its industry even now, decades after his death.
Kroc initially met the McDonald brothers at their San Bernardino restaurant in 1955. At the time, Kroc was running a business selling commercial milkshake machines.
