A collection of humorous autobiographical essays by the Academy Award-nominated actress and star of Up in the Air and Pitch Perfect.
"I'm excited to publish my first book, and because I get uncomfortable when people have high expectations, I'd like to use this opportunity to showcase my ineptitude and pettiness and the frequency with which I embarrass myself. And while many of my female inspirations who have become authors are incredibly well educated and accomplished comedy writers, I'm very, very funny on Twitter, according to BuzzFeed and my mom, so I feel like this is a great idea. Quick question: Are run-on sentences still frowned upon? Wait, is ending a sentence with a preposition still frowned upon? I mean, upon frowned? Dammit!" (Anna Kendrick)
Anna Kendrick's autobiographical collection of essays amusingly recounts memorable moments throughout her life, from her middle-class upbringing in New England to the blockbuster movies that have made her one of Hollywood's most popular actresses today. Expanding upon the witty and ironic dispatches for which she is known, Anna Kendrick's essays offer her one-of-a-kind commentary on the absurdities she's experienced on her way to and from the heart of pop culture.

"Actress Anna Kendrick narrates her wry and witty collection of autobiographical essays about growing up in Portland, Maine.... Her quick pace, sometimes sarcastic tone, and unmistakably familiar voice enhance funny and shrewd reflections on her ordinary girl's life." (AudioFile)
An amazingly funny book, I loved listening to Anna and her slightly awkward and loveable stories. A great insight into how people are just people at the end of the day, everyone struggles and has problems. Her voice and the way she puts expression makes the book easy to listen to and on several occasions I laughed out loud, I must have looked like a psycho on my morning cycle to work.....
As one who has always struggled to find a book/audio book entertaining this was something i looked forward to since pre order and i wasn't in any way disappointed, it's funny and very interesting and I 100% recommended it to anyone who is either a fan or is just fancying a new book to read or especially listen to, in the end all i can say is this is really really great and is so worth buying for absolutely anyone 😊😊😊
this is the first audible book I have listened to and wow! I lived it, so funny in parts driving along laughing. would really recommend and nice touch that she is reading it herself
Great listen, really draws you in honestly I couldn't recommend enough.
Imagine that friend who's constantly happy and upbeat that always make people laugh, it's pretty much like listening to that person
I genuinely loved listening to this. Anna has had a pretty fascinating life so far and her views on celebrity life are refreshing and real.
I loved this book Anna krndrick is my spirit animals so funny. Clever. Awesome!!!!! Just loved it. The narrative is so funny and she's clearly enjoyed herself love how her mind works. We'd get on so well.. In a non I sit outside her house stalker style way! Write another one soon Anna! 6
I totally loved listening to this book! It made my day feel a whole less mundane (I mean I was building flat pack furniture, so it was pretty mundane) Anna writing is both witty and informative, I can honestly say I think comes across really well. Added bonus, it's nice to know somebody else over analyses situations or events as much as me! You should totally listen/read this book, it's fab!
I did enjoy this book, I quite like most of the work that Anna Kendrick has done.
This book came across as quite honest, she seems like a person who is quite self aware and isn't a diva. Many of the stories are humorous and relatable.
I have to admit that I did have the thought when I first heard Anna Kendrick was writing a biographical book that 'hang on surely she's too young'. However she wasn't self aggrandizing but being truthful about her life.
My main objection is towards the swearing, yes I read books that have swearing in them but I don't find that attractive or pleasant in a person. This probably won't be an issue for anyone else but it is something that bothers me and the reason I didn't give it a higher rating.
This was an enjoyable listen, but does not make my top 3 books.
I loved how down to earth Anna was and learning more about her life,
I did laugh out loud at some bits.
I have to admit to being a wee bit disappointed by this book. I love Anna Kendrick, she is a great actress, always comes across well in interviews and can be hilarious on twitter. But somehow, her personality does not come across as she narrates her own book. At times I thought she sounded a bit bored by the whole thing.
Never the less, I'm glad I listened.
I have never been able to finish a celebrity autobiography before. Midway through this book I realized that this was something that I would listen to several times over. Anna is brilliant and can effortlessly put herself in the mind of reader in a way that makes it seem like a real conversation. I enjoy that she gets right to the point and doesn't add any fluff to lengthen the story. This book never came off as self absorbed or fake, which is refreshing. All together it is worth a credit.
This book was fantastic! Listening to Anna talk about her life was like having a long conversation with a new friend. Loved it!
I loved this from beginning to end. I really hope people take a chance on this. I found her so likeable. I would read another book by her tomorrow!
"I love Anna Kendrick"
this book was really good having it read by Anna Kendrick herself made the story come alive.
I highly recommend this book to anyone who's ever felt like an outsider in a group and Anna's clever ways of telling stories of her childhood and her experiences in life where in lightning and comical.
thank you :-)
"Anna the author"
Anna perfectly put her personality into a book that was fun to read, didn't deel pretensious at all, narration light and easy to follow
"fun listen into the life of a cute actor."
great quick listen on my commute. funny anecdotes on her jobs and childhood in theatre.
"Humorous and Nicely Performed"
Anna Kendrick's performance of her own composition is humorous and compelling. Her delivery exhibits dead pan and dry humor. Would highly recommend to anyone looking for a light and honest read.
"It's like listening to a good friend tell stories"
Great book. The storytelling is very conversational and flows very well. It's like listening to an old friend tell stories. Anna Kendricks performance of the book is great and adds a sense of authenticity.
"Anna Kendrick: Scrappy Little... Revelation"
Story: Like so many others that have left reviews, I too have thoroughly enjoyed this book. I've only listened to a few other books in this genre (Rob Lowe, Judy Greer, Tina Fey) so I can't compare it to much, but I would consider this a somewhat typical Hollywood memoir. Trying to figure out direction in life, reaching the ah-ha moment, and then experiencing the highs and lows of the journey. I found myself able to relate to some stories and others not, but even if you can or can't, I'm confident that you'll be laughing along the entire way. One thing that makes it interesting is that Miss Kendrick is still a young actress. She has experienced a lot already and we don't even know where she will go from here (how many more books will we get!?).
Performance: The narration was done wonderfully! The audiobook flowed and felt like a conversation with a friend... you know, when a friend tells a really, really long story :) For real, though, this was hilarious and genuine.
Overall: I couldn't find myself giving the overall rating anything other than five stars. This book is light, easy to follow and humorous. I nearly finished it during one drive and didn't tire or need a break at all because it all flowed so well and I was pulled into the performance from the start. Highly recommend this audiobook! To wrap this up, the best way I can describe this audiobook is... absolutely effortless!
"For.. aspiring actors/actresses perhaps?"
Premise: I loved the Pitch Perfect movies and Anna Kendrick is a very talented singer and she makes me laugh out loud when she does her interviews.
That being said, let's now get to this audiobook.
Having listened to the audiobook, it was still entertaining at times hearing Anna talk so fast she was rambling one thousand words per second and some anecdotes were funny indeed but I could not relate to her at all.
She talked about her experience moving out to LA at seventeen, going to premieres and the night of the Oscars and even though she's very down to earth, it was still an actress that basically lives in another world compared to mine. Plus, there was the whole "adolescence" where she tried out new things like going to college parties or doing some drungs or drinking which might be normal for the American culture but it is definitely not common where I live.
I would recommend it to people who want to enter the acting world, to understand that it is not easy and there are tons of sacrifices to go through if you want to make it but if you're passionate and determined you CAN make it, despite all the efforts.
So I can recognize some of its value but it wasn't for me, unfortunately. But yeah, it kept me company.
