Having been a huge fan of NOFX for many years, I was extremely excited to hear they were releasing an autobiographical style book.
It does not disappoint. it's so BRUTALLY honest and real, an unflinching account to all the ups and downs of this group of misfits. Listened to it in its entirety in 2 days and I am going for round 2!
Will shock you, move you and make you laugh. Highly recommended wether you're a fan or not!
Very Funny, dark, gripping, sad, extreme but brutally and relentlessly honest.
Challenging people's perceptions? That's so punk.
A great listen
Infinitely - having it read by the guys involved with each member reading their own chapters makes it all the more engaging.
The narration style is very similar to the Doug Stanhope Book digging up mother In that the people actually involved in the stories are telling them.
There's many hilarious moments, too many to name.
The chapter after you first here the story of the scumbag friend and what happened to one of the band members girlfriends at his hands. Getting the two versions of the stories, two people's truths with only one of them being the truth, the way the book does this is brilliant.
Highly recommended for anyone interested in music and road stories, being fans of the band or even punk music is not necessary.
Whether you're a NOFX fan or not, this is essential listening. At times a very difficult listen, especially when confronted with Smelly's unflinching tales of heroin addiction but throughout it all its read with the band's unique comedic approach to life. It's completely no holds barred and no subjects are taboo, it's a fascinating insight into the DIY punk ethics that NOFX have stayed true to from the start. Highly recommended.
"This book is down for the cause homes!!"
Absolutely loved it!! It's like Eric Melvin touched my souls, Smelly Almost brought me to tears, El Jefe made think about my own Mexican family growing up and fat Mike mad me laugh and think about my own vices. Jello and Tommy were great and sincere in there readings. I Fucking love this book and it makes me appreciate NOFX even more. Thank you for both guys, you all did great reading your parts!!
beautiful book. I never did understand that there were people, much less famous people I looked up to who felt similar to me.
"Loved these stories"
Since the band (and a couple of friends) read the their own book, it was really engaging when they would tell the stories of the small happenings a events, that lead to NOFX as we know them. Being a fan of the band, this was a treat for me. But, if anything, the tales are fun, scary and put things into perspective with early punk culture. The guys putting out this book had to take courage and some long lost emotional stress. Several parts of this book I feel will stick with me for some time. Just because a few topics hit pretty close to home. A great book for anyone. ...maybe anyone.
"Moron brothers! ha ha ha ha ha good book. I think."
Moron brothers! ha ha ha ha ha good book. I think. check it out. you most likely wont regret it. lots of chapters and good stories. some of the stories you can not un hear. do not say I did not warn you hahaha no really its good. if you like that kind of stuff.
"Liked it up to family death and butt plugs."
Lost me at butt plugs. Like I can hang for a bit, but it felt like the last 10% of the book was less about NOFX, and more about Mike's sexual lifestyle. Great book up until that point.
Deep, sad, funny, inspirational, scary, educational, insightful, disgusting, and one of the most addictive books I've listened to yet. If you are a fan of NOFX it is deeply satisfying to hear where they came from and what they've been through. Extremely well written and well spoken. Thanks for sharing guys! Love you! Glad you are all still alive and doing well.
