Summary

Norman Wisdom's early years could easily have come straight from the pages of a Dickens novel. Left by their frightened mother and ill-treated by a brutal father, Norman and his brother were forced to fend for themselves, sleeping rough in London and stealing food to survive. This is a rags to riches tale of the man Charlie Chaplin said would take his mantle and who went on to make millions laugh around the world for over five decades. Here are the hardships, tragedies, and triumphs that gave him his inspiration.

From the days working the seasons at Scarborough, to the unforgettable and endearing character Norman Pitkin, the little man in a tight fitting suit, read of his rapid climb up the showbiz ladder.

Funny, touching and so, so interesting.

The history behind the comic genius, told by the great man himself. He reads his biography in a touching and sincere way, telling the harsh and happy parts of his life with equal enthusiasm. You would never know that a man who smiles so much, could have suffered in the ways he did. Refreshingly though, Norman doesn’t dwell on these memories, by uses them to remind himself what a ‘lucky little devil’ he is.
This book is like listening to your favourite Granddad tell you his most interesting stories. I full recommend to anyone and everyone.

the one and only Norman Wisdom

I loved listening to Sir Norman recount his hard childhood, you could not understand what he had to laugh about but he did and I think his hard work and determination showed why he would become such a star.A really great listen/read

What a warm and heartfelt story of this great mans life and rags to riches story and a sorry lost to the world. A joy to hear his voice. Great but and I will be sure you will like it very much. Wish it was longer

The greatest of all time!!!

There is no doubt that Norman Wisdom is the greatest comic of all time. To be able to hear his own biography read by him, in his own classic and heart warming way has been a true privilege, delight and one of the best way any person could spend a few hours.

I have always been one of Norman's biggest fans and not just because of his films but also because he is with out question, a true gentleman and a shining ambassador for our greatest generation...

I would advise everybody to listen to this recording and from the bottom of my heart - I want to thank everyone involved who made it possible. Most importantly I would like to thank Norman Wisdom, for the joy and impact that he has had on my life, as I aspire to do good in the world as he has.

Thank you,

sincerely

Anthony Wood
