Summary

Norman Wisdom's early years could easily have come straight from the pages of a Dickens novel. Left by their frightened mother and ill-treated by a brutal father, Norman and his brother were forced to fend for themselves, sleeping rough in London and stealing food to survive. This is a rags to riches tale of the man Charlie Chaplin said would take his mantle and who went on to make millions laugh around the world for over five decades. Here are the hardships, tragedies, and triumphs that gave him his inspiration.

From the days working the seasons at Scarborough, to the unforgettable and endearing character Norman Pitkin, the little man in a tight fitting suit, read of his rapid climb up the showbiz ladder.

Funny, touching and so, so interesting.

The history behind the comic genius, told by the great man himself. He reads his biography in a touching and sincere way, telling the harsh and happy parts of his life with equal enthusiasm. You would never know that a man who smiles so much, could have suffered in the ways he did. Refreshingly though, Norman doesn’t dwell on these memories, by uses them to remind himself what a ‘lucky little devil’ he is.
This book is like listening to your favourite Granddad tell you his most interesting stories. I full recommend to anyone and everyone.

Heart Warming. You will cry

What a full lived life. You just love him more when you hear all his escapades. The Wetherspoons in Deal is named after him. From poverty to the Palladium. He took everything on the chin sometimes literally. A remarkable man and thank you Sir Norman for narrating it yourself. Listened in one sitting.

Wonderful

I found it so warming and inspiring listening to this comedic legend talk about his life and early childhood. Having been a NW fan for years I was excited to give this book a go, but I'd recommend it to anyone, NW fan or not.

Funny, sad and awe inspiring. A round of applause for a true legend and wonderful human being.
