The decision to publish the book has been very difficult, and taken with heavy hearts... My reason for writing it is simple: to give an account of the truth...
Writing this memoir has entailed recording some very personal, intimate and emotional aspects of our lives. Sharing these with strangers does not come easily to me, but if I hadn't done so I would not have felt the book gave as full a picture as it is possible for me to give.
As with every action we have taken over the last four years, it ultimately boils down to whether what we are doing could help us to find Madeleine. When the answer to that question is yes, or even possibly, our family can cope with anything... nothing is more important to us than finding our little girl.
Gerry McCann says: "It is a sad fact that not a single police force anywhere is proactively looking forMadeleine (as is the case for many other missing children). I am sure this book will re-energize the search for our daughter and the public will get behind the Find Madeleine campaign once again. It is simply unacceptable that the authorities could give up on Madeleine - especially without a single review of the case having been carried out. Our daughter, and whoever took her, are out there. We need your help to find them."

If the book had been about the little girl rather than her mother.
I'm sorry, no it didn't. I was extremely disappointed and rather shocked by the way it was more like Kate McCann's uninteresting autobiography.
Fantastically written, heartbreaking book. Shame on all those people who presumed the worst of the family before waiting to hear their version of events. My only wish was that Kate McCann could have read it herself.
It's not a book to judge the character is very sad real life storyWhich has been told well
Knowing the truth It's better to read the real story and not what is said in the paper
All of the book it's such a moving story which makes you wonder how you are supposed to move on and continue with the family and hold it all together
Beneath the rumours conspiracies and lies I truly hope this family can stay strong in the hope that one day Madeline is reunited safely home.
God bless you all. ❤️
I would, its Kate's account of what happened at the most harrowing time of their lives. A story we all think we know but cant imagine in our worst nightmares. Heart felt and sorrowful.
Only thing which would make it "enjoyable" would be an additional chapter when Madeleine is found.
This is the account of what happened from Kate's perspective. It is absolutely heart-breaking and terrifying as not only have they lost their daughter but the Portuguese Police seemed hell bent on stitching them up as well. None of us know how we would react in their situation and there is no precedent for it. I know there are other accounts of what happened at that time but lets just hope that whoever took her did so to love and look after Madeleine and that she has come to no harm to be reunited one day with her parents and siblings.
Not a comfortable story but anyone who has read a word about this in the press or seen anything on the media and formed "a view" I think should give this book a read and listen to what Kate has to say.
A heart felt and truthful account of the events. My heart goes out to the McCann family and I am in awe of Kate for having the strength to write this book. What an amazing family. I will be recommending this book to my book club, friends and family with a view to keeping the search for this beautiful little girl alive.
"Tragic story of a family"
Yes. Kate McCann's tale is compelling as it is tragic, and the narration is wonderful. Like another reviewer stated, it might have been better if Kate had read the book herself (she did read the foreward), but perhaps this was not possible for a number of reasons.
There are many touching moments with the children, and of course the disappearance of Madeleine was very tragic and distressing to read about.
This book is a tragic, well-told chronicle of the events leading up to and after the disappearance of this little girl. In parts it was hard to follow everything that was going on, but this actually fitted well and helped me to empathize with the hell that this family has gone through and will continue to go through until such point as Madeleine is found.
"An insight into what happened"
Kate McCann telling the true story
Her outgoing personality and the caring of her siblings.
Yes, they did and it was possible to remember who was in their group of friends and to separate from the family members. How this was dealt with and repeated, you felt that you actually knew the people that were caring for Kate and Gerry McCann.
It made me feel very sad at times especially how the police did not seem to care or take action quickly enough following Madeleine's abduction.
This book is well worth reading as you actually find out the truth of actually what happened to very loving and caring parents, which didn't always come out in the media reporting.
"Unforgivable parental negligence"
Absolutely not. The main protagonist, the mother of the kidnapped gift, whines and complains that the local police didn't do enough to find her daughter. The mother made the decision that leaving her children alone in a resort villa was okay b/c, after all, she wanted to dine and drink with other vacationers. I was so disgusted by the mother's behavior I couldn't finish the book.
Haven't previously been subjected to this whining, "feel sorry for me" narrator.
WHY the selfish, useless "mother" abandoned her children for a good meal in a restaurant.
What parent would leave sleeping children to dine out? Seriously, why weren't this young girl's parents jailed?
