Publisher's Summary

Brought up in a vicarage, Freddy Spencer Chapman acquired a love of nature and became 'fascinated by danger' during childhood. Thirty years later, as an SOE-trained guerilla soldier, the orphan boy would prove to be one of the British army's deadliest agents.

    "A Real Jungle Soldier"

I usually look for books on Asia conflicts and true adventure this was a real find i go to Sabah and Sarawak Borneo quite a lot so i can imigine how difficult a time that Freddy Spencer Chapman must have had just to survive in such a enviroment under the conditions he had to live with and he went on to defiy the Japanese in the jungle for three and a half years.

You live every torturous mile of Freddy's journey through the Malaysian jungle once I started the to listen I could not switch off.

The author also tries to show how the child becames the man coming up with the interesting and plausible idea that being adveturous and rootless in his early childhood shows us why he survived.

    "Great Story - Brilliant Narration!"

This audiobook about Major(Colonel by end of Malayan Campaign),Freddy Spencer Chapman is an excellent listen. It gives a great account of his boyhood history and his later exploits behind Japanese lines in Malaysia. A riviting listen, made even better by John Telfers' superb narration! I love WW 2 history, especially action behind enemy lines. From his many adventures and hardships in the Arctic region to his wandering through Tibet to Bhutan while mountain climbing, his adventures were most enjoyable. This is one of the best I've listened to. Thanks Audible for this one! - Ron L. Ottawa,Canada.
