This is Gordon Ramsay's autobiography, the first time he has told the full story of how he became the world's most famous and infamous chef. He also discusses his difficult childhood, his brother's heroin addiction, and his failed first career as a footballer.

This was my first choice on Audible. I thought it may be interesting and give an insight into a well known man. I was very surprised by the book. It is extremely well written and Gordon narrates well, there are moments when you can hear the emotion in his voice.
This book has given me a very different view of Gordon Ramsay. I actually thought he was loud, rude and insensitive. I was very wrong. This book not only details his childhood and his career, it gives a real feel for what makes him tick and how he has become the man he is.
I would thoroughly recommend it. I listened to it in one session and played it again later.
Told in the familiar tones of the Ramsey we all know, I found myself looking forward to listening to this on the commute to and from work. It gives a good insight into Ramsey's difficult upbringing, his 'near miss' of playing with Rangers, his early career and the fishbowl that is the London restaurant scene. I felt he was pretty honest about his influences, good and bad, his lucky breaks and his dedication to perfection that drives himself almost to distraction. In the end, you come away thinking that for all the money and fame, he's chosen a life that's never going to be an easy ride.
This is a great story, brilliantly well told and narrated by Gordon himself. His breathy, chatty style is just right for the content. The first f...... h... comes as a bit of a shock (I kept expecting him to be bleeped!) but it is no holds barred as he describes his tough childhood and rise to the top. Skulduggery and backstabbing in the kitchen and his views on other chefs provide laughs, but his total passion for food, and, indeed, life comes over clearly. Humble he ain't, but obviously very proud of what he has achieved, and quite right too. Very inspiring.
I'm a big Ramsay fan and really enjoyed hearing his story. Seriously inspiring guy, just shows life is really all about hard work. I just wish they'd have made an unabridged version, however as the book illustrates, he's a busy man!
This was very different from what I expected. Instead of the harsh gobby person we see on TV whose most popular words seems to be the F*** word, we see a different side to Ramsay. One that shows he has worked incredibly hard to get to where he is today, and that whilst he is obviously a showman also, he is a great chef, who worked tirelessly to be 'great' and has come from a very simple and poor upbringing. I met Ramsay when he was doing a makeover in Kitchen Nightmares once and he came across as passionate about food and getting it right, and this shone through, as did the loyalty he gets from his employees.
I think it helps that he reads it personally as you feel his passion and drive.
A great read/listen two, I couldn't put it down. I bought it for a trip and made the mistake of starting it just to see what it was like, and I couldn't put it down. A very interesting and enlightening listen.
Addicted to reading!
This is so good. Gordon Tells his business life story in a short but very entertaining book. At first I was surprised it had 3 chapters only but honestly it's packed with stories of a great authentic life! Well done Gordan!
Great hearing from him in his own words about his tough childhood and early career followed by his determination and work and life ethic. This is a true rags to riches storey and leaves the listener inspired and in awe. It also serves as a great entrepreneurial and success case study.
if you are into cooking definitely
a true incite into the real world and influences of a chef i admired but didn't used to like too much - i now have a lot more respect for him
the right length i listened to it all in 2 sittings
I love Gordan, but this has taken the biscuit. (Pardon the pun) for a brilliant, dramatic, well performed piece of work. I would love for him to go into more detail, and for the story itself to have more of a common thread, but other than that i would highly recommend it.
"Do wish it was unabridged though. . ."
I am a massive Ramsay fan. He has such a passion, intensity and energy for his work it is incredibly inspiring. His story was so genuine and heartfelt and I absolutely loved it.
Also, not always the case when an author narrates their own story - I found his narration to be superb.
A candid look into the early years of Gordon Ramsay. This was a great listen narrated by the author. Fingers are crossed for an Unabridged version.
"Gordon Ramsay Revealed"
Gordon Ramsay is so much more than his over-bearing, sometimes caustic personality. Listening to his story gave an understanding of why he is so driven and holds such high expectations. It also shows that he has just as big a heart as his personality.
He lets us in to so much of his early personal life. His issues with his dad and how that shaped who he became spoke to me.
He is so kind of a person and that doesn't always come through when you watch his shows. Also, that he is such a strong person who has overcome adversity to come out on top.
I was lucky enough to be on a road trip and could listen to it in one sitting. I didn't stop as often as I normally would because I wanted to finish it.
"Interesting Insight but Not a Tell All Biography"
I have not read the print version but I would immediately answer yes. Gordon has such a unique way of delivering his thoughts that having him narrate his own book is what truly makes it entertaining and worth listening to. As with many, I enjoy when an author narrates their own book and this is no different. It felt like I was being told stories instead of reading a book about someone's life. I would have preferred to hear the unabridged version but it was still enjoyable. Some of his stories went into great detail while others just touched the surface: this was not a tell all autobiography as many would desire but it does give some background into Gordon Ramsay's life that otherwise would have been unknown to me. Being such a big fan of him, I was happy to get to know a little more about the real person he is.
I enjoyed hearing about Gordon's childhood. In his most formative years he had to deal with issues that are not easy and often lead to people taking a very dark path in life, as was the case with his brother. To hear about how this helped fuel his passion gave a little insight into what makes him tick.
Gordon's performance was great and I think made the book enjoyable. Any other narrator would not have done it justice.
I really enjoyed listening about the life of Gordon Ramsay told by Gordon Ramsay. I did not like that it was abridged... I want more detail.
If you respect one of the world's top chefs, you will enjoy Gordon's autobiographical account of his rise to stardom. Funny yet touching.
"Gordon, just marvellous!"
I liken this book to another audiobook I listened to last year - Craig Ferguson's 'American on Purpose'. The stories share the tail of a Scottish man that grew up under difficult and trying circumstances only to carry through with determination, passion and strength.
I loved this book. I stayed up until 1am to ensure I felt the full impact of a signal sitting, which I can honestly say was worth it. All I can add, as a recent addition to Gordon's fan base, is that I continue to be inspired by Gordon and all of his work.
"I wanted more"
This book was incredible! Chef Ramsey read it perfectly. I never thought that chef was a bad and mean guy. I knew he was tough and this book was just a great way to prove that he is great. I wish I could meet him I have so much respect for him. This is a must read or listen.
Not only is Ramsay a great author but a great narrator as well
"I really loved this book and Gordon reading it!"
That Gordon read the book himself. It gives the book more insight because you can hear the feeling in his voice, it makes you feel his emotions about what happened in his life and how it made him feel.
I don't think he has ever recorded any other audiobooks.
You feel for him because of what he went through and how it made him stronger and not give up on his life. You understand his passion for what he does.
I really wished that there was an unabridged recording, I hate abridged book audiobooks. I gave it 4 stars simply because it is an abridged version.
