When all seems lost, where can hope be found?
Katherine and Jay married right after college and sought adventure far from home in Los Angeles, CA. As they pursued their dreams, they planted their lives in the city and in their church community. Their son, James, came along unexpectedly in the fall of 2007, and just six months later, everything changed in a moment for this young family.
On April 21, 2008, as James slept in the other room, Katherine collapsed, suffering a massive brain stem stroke without warning. Miraculously, Jay came home in time and called for help. Katherine was immediately rushed into brain microsurgery, though her chance of survival was slim.
As the sun rose the next morning, the surgeon proclaimed that Katherine had survived the removal of part of her brain, though her future recovery was completely uncertain. Yet in that moment, there was a spark of hope. Through 40 days on life support in the ICU and nearly two years in full-time brain rehab, that spark of hope was fanned into flame.
Defying every prognosis with grit and grace, Katherine and Jay, side by side, struggled to regain a life for Katherine as she relearned to talk and eat and walk. Katherine returned home with a severely disabled body but a completely renewed purpose; she and Jay committed to celebrating this gift of a second chance by embracing life fully, even though that life looked very different from what they could have ever imagined. In the midst of continuing hardships and struggles in both body and mind, Katherine and Jay found what we all long to find: hope. Hope that heals the most broken places: our souls.
An excruciating yet beautiful road to recovery has led the Wolf family to their new normal, in which almost every moment of life is marked with the scars of that fateful April day in 2008. Now, eight years later, Katherine and Jay are stewarding their story of suffering, restoration, and Christ-centered hope in this broken world through their ministry Hope Heals.

"Helpful, thought provoking book."
One of my favorite attributes of the book Is the raw honesty this couple exhibit. They are not self seeking, but they are real. If you think you're having it tough, and you probably are, this is the book for you. I gave it 5 stars because it kept me engaged throughout the reading, and I don't how how they could have improved on it.
"Powerful, intimate, tear evoking, inspiring! ! !"
This book, biography, was so powerful for me. I too have suffered many of the same tragedies. So many of the same emotions. This book was healing in so many ways. Katherine is such a beautiful soul. Suffering well is a blessing. I never understood why people would complement me for the what I have gone thru and kept my spirt up. I would this, what the heck are they talking about? I would say to my husband "Why are they saying these things? All I have done is stay alive and I had no choice in that." Now I understand, I have inspired people by not being angry, sad, bitter, well at least not often. I love hearing from Jay's point of view. Both Jay and Katherine are so elequint. To be ably to articulate the horrific events and emotions puts so much perspective and validation to the way my family has felt. Knowing that I, my family, Jay and Katherine are God's children. My favorite line in the book was what they said about times of trial, "God may not save us from the furnace but he will walk thru the flames with you." Suffering well is difficult. I could NOT stop listening to their story! The two narrators where wonderful. I could really get into the moment with the inflection and character in which the story was told. I want everyone to read this book!!! God bless Katherine and Jay for the gift oh Hope!
"A beautiful story of hope, love, and healing"
This is an amazing story of a beautiful couple inside and out, tested by fire in one of the most difficult experiences anyone could ever imagine . Not only did Katherine survive, she came out of this experience stronger, deeper in her relationship with Jesus, and even more beautiful. This is a must read for any Christian couple starting out their married life or anyone needing a refresher on the meaning of hope , purpose, community, and the power of prayer. Having known this couple personally I am humbled that they have shared their story in such an intimate way so that we may have hope ourselves in our own struggles. This story is as much about Jay's love for his wife as it is about Katherine's stroke . He is a portrait of what a noble husband's true Christian love is for his wife. It is a blessing to have others hear his perspective here. The narrators are very pleasant in this audible version- though I will say that as I listened to the voices, I still remember Katherine's pre-stroke voice which is what I imagined reading this story throughout the book. Katherine had an extra Southern belle aspect to her voice. :) Overall, this is a must read for all wanting to hear a story of how hope truly heals.
This is one of the best non fiction narrations I have ever listened to. I feel like the female narrator truly captured the personality of the author. Her voice had so much depth to it.
The story itself is amazing. It is one of courage and love. I do think that it could have been shortened a bit for a more potent punch, but that's really my only criticism. It's certainly worth a listen.
This book was so good I could hardly take a break from listening! Very inspiring and encouraging!
What a testimony of grace, determination and love told from both perspectives. Thank you for sharing your life and love.
This story is beautiful. The Christian sentiments within are also beautiful and inspirational. Buy it and listen to be inspired.
Loved it. If you ever thought something trivial in your life was life altering, read this and you'll know what real struggle is. What a beautiful family!
"A true life changing story"
This is a story of unbelievable pain & unbelievable joy!! It truly describes how to be grateful in the midst of ongoing pain and suffering. It gives the reader an understanding of how much we need to have hope no matter what is going on in our life, & how that hope can truly heal our soul. Praise God for this story, and this beautiful Christian couple!!
"The Epitome of Inspiration"
This book will change your life...if you are open to let it. One of the best books I've experienced. it is also a book you should have in your hand (and then place in a conspicuous spot on a shelf so that you can see it often) even if you are listening to it on Audible.com; a fabulous section of pictures is included. Additionally, each part has Jay's signature along with Katherine's printed name to signal the shift in the narrator. Seeing her writing is a significant and beautiful detail, as is the anchor symbol throughout. This is one of the few books that I have both the Audible copy and the printed copy. I look forward to reading and re-reading, listening and re-listening!
