Publisher's Summary

Confessions of a Transylvanian is a one-of-a-kind, backstage look at the greatest cult movie phenomenon of all time - the live Rocky Horror Picture Show - told by those who lived it. The highest-rated Rocky Horror book on the market, Confessions is a moving snapshot of life in a Rocky Horror cast that captures the grit, language and teenage angst of a group of fishnet-clad performers as they explore a world where the only rule was: Don't dream it. "I Get It Now!!!"
Would you consider the audio edition of Confessions of a Transylvanian to be better than the print version?

I personally enjoyed both versions. I was first introduced with the print version. There I had the chance to place my own imagination into each character. The audio version enhanced it even more!

What did you like best about this story?

I loved the friendships that developed. It made me a little envious of the bonds that grew through their experiences. I didn't make these types of bonds during my high school years so to experience this through the book was quite enjoyable.

    Which scene was your favorite?

By far my favorite scene was the development of the "Spider Brothers". I laughed so hard through that section. It was hilarious.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

Hmmmm good question. Maybe something like, "bonds that last a lifetime"

    Any additional comments?

Confessions of a Transylvanian did an amazing job of introducing me to the whole "Rocky Horror" craze. I thoroughly enjoyed every page of this book! I can remember a dear friend from high school would talk about his weekend experiences at the local theater watching the live performances. I just didn't get it and wondered what the big deal was all about. Well after reading Confessions of a Transylvanian I TOTALLY get it now! I recommend this book to anyone who (a) wants to recapture the enjoyment of their Rocky Horror years at the theater, (b) didn't get what all the fuss was about and is now open to taking a ride back in time to experience it, or (c) have no idea what we are talking about here but is curious to find out. Read it, you won't be sorry!

"Freakin awesome! A must for Rocky Fans!"

First off, shut up and sit down, if you have a problem with cursing, ya better pick another f*cking book!

To say I loved this book is an understatement!! I grew up in another section of Florida and several years later, but boy do I wish I could have been a part of this! Listening to the adventures of the Wild and Untamed Things, brought happy tears to my eyes. I am a theatre gal from way back, so I know how being in a cast becomes a family. To be a part of something so special, is truly a joy.

As is the case with audiobooks read by the author, I feel like I am one of the gang, in a totally non stalker groupie sort of way! Listening to all the backstage mishaps and drama was a thrill. I feel like I have come to know Kevin, Russ, Donnie, Kenny, Boyd, Sunday, Tracey, Andrea, MarK, Iris, Tony, Felicia, Storme and Ron. So many others popped up, but these are the ones that stick in my head.

You get to see, Jack, wink wink, grow up and become a man through his time with the cast. He went from a fan to true part of the show. It was a treat hearing all the backstage insider secrets.

He is also wonderful at explaining, to the uninitiated, why Rocky Horror is such a cult favorite. Why this live experience can mean so much to fans. It is lightning in a bottle, you just hope for a glimpse if not a chance to touch it. It says it is okay to be who you are and welcomes all comers. Don't just dream it, be it!

I listened to the audiobook narrated by Kevin (Jack) Theis, who is fabulous. His pace is brisk, so if you can't keep up ya better slow it down a notch on the speed settings. You really do not want to miss a thing. This is one of the cases where I wholeheartedly endorse the author reading the material. Nobody else could have given the enthusiastic and energetic read. It felt like we were old friends chatting and catching up on old times. Heck, I feel like we are pals after spending 11 and a half hours with him. Count me in for the next reunion! LOL

This is a must listen/read for any Rocky fan. You will feel that love and energy all over again. This is at times hilarious and pinpoint. To think these kids were only 16ish and the lessons they taught each other. The understudies section was particularly wonderful. To be in that position and step down, even for one night a month, is huge!

While I adored the audio, I am afraid I missed out on things that would be in the print. I am going to scope out the ebook and see if there are photos, I need faces to go with these stories. I would recommend getting both, because this really was a delightful listen! (rockyconfessions(dot)com> get your extras fix at the website!)

*** I hope this review was useful to you and helped your decision to read or not read this book. I love reading and sharing my opinions with other readers. I listen at double speed; all my impressions of the narration are from that setting. Thanks for taking the time to read my review! Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes...in fact I have bought the hard copy for a friend and recommended it to many people.

What did you like best about this story?

It perfectly captures the organized chaos of a Rocky cast.

Have you listened to any of Kevin Theis’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

    I haven't but plan to!

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

It all did...I'm a Rocky Horror fan/cast member of 26 years.

If you could sum up Confessions of a Transylvanian in three words, what would they be?

    Hilarious, whimsical, nostolgic

What other book might you compare Confessions of a Transylvanian to and why?

Can't think of a specific title, but if you enjoy hearing about moments that shape your youth, about finding that circle of friends in your late teens that will forever shape your life, or if you just dig The Rocky Horror Picture Show, this book will be right up your alley.

What about Kevin Theis’s performance did you like?

He's a consumate performer, and it shows in this read. Engaging and entertaining.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

When the band splits up, so to speak, and goodbyes are said. And I found the reunion to be very sweet/bittersweet as well.

    Any additional comments?

Don't be put off if you have not been a lifeling RHPS fan. A passing knowlege of the movie and the phenomenon are really all you need to thouroughly enjoy this story.

    "really enjoyable listen"

I'd already read the print version of the book, but knowing the story didn't take away from listening to the audiobook. Hearing it told by one of the authors made it really come to life. If you're a RHPS fan at all, download this and listen to it. Guaranteed to being back memories!

    "Fun story with great narration"

Although is was before my time, this tale of growing up with a band of misfits seems much like my own. Jack's story of his friends and their misadventures kept me interested all through to the end. It is familiar and new, a nostalgic piece with a great narration that feels like a friend sitting next to you at a party telling you a tale he's told a thousand times that never gets old.

I listened to this book as someone who had never really gotten in to The Rocky Horror Picture Show. And now, I plan on going to a screening!

The best part of this book for me was Kevin Thies's performance. His passion for the subject matter is contagious!
