Summary
John Comer kept a journal of the 25 missions he flew in 1943, when the casualty rate on his base was close to 80 percent. His book is handwritten history, recorded within hours after the battles occurred. Comer vividly creates his experiences as top-turret gunner/flight engineer in a B-17 squadron that was thrown against the best pilots the Luftwaffe could offer. In 1943 the army air force had no long-range fighters to protect the B-17s as they flew deep into enemy territory. Immediate, straightforward, and compelling, Combat Crew is a classic of aerial warfare.

possibly the best of the genre
A charismatic narration of an engineer/gunner's war. Probably what audio-books were made for. Buy it!

Undaunted Bravery
An absolutely amazing account of young men faced with the horror of air war. Humour, bravery, tragedy, this story has the lot. Should be compulsory reading for schools, especially for people who take their freedoms for granted.

A beautiful and absorbing account of the b17 crews in the war
A fascinating account of the war from a crew member's perspective. Unbelievable how these brave men volunteered to face almost certain death on a mission by mission basis. The writer details his personal experiences in a highly emotionally intelligent way, really giving you a good insight into what these crews went through.
The narrator is fantastic, definitely a book to read/listen again.

Balanced story of an 8th Air Force crew.
It was nice to see a well balanced narrative by John Cromer. Particularly the acknowledgement of the RAF supporting the 8th Air Force ops.
Good inter crew description not often written about.

Brilliant. Brings history to life.
Always been fascinated with WW2 and specifically the battle for the skies. B-17s wee special as were the men who flew in them and this audiobook is a fitting tribute and fascinating account of their lives.
