Encouraging down to earth Christianity

Very frank description of the life of an Ordinand at Durham over his two year course before becoming ordained as a Deacon by Archbishop Sentinu at York Minster. At the same time his wife has her own needs to which he adapts eventually but finds rather a strain. Rev Matt seems like a bloke’s bloke. He likes having fun in the pub with his mates and going running. I feel that it’s ok being frank with God in one’s prayers but that he will need to rein in a bit when dealing with parishioners. Having formerly been a journalist his gift with the English language was a real gift to his studies and the development of his faith and character. I admired the way that he was always so ready to be repentant, part of our faith, and heal problems in relationships. He must be a very likeable person. He also seemed quite normal as opposed to academic, although could write essays well seeing the nub and using examples to develop his themes. He is an example of the ordinary man using his life to follow God and in the process bringing many of His flock to God. We need more men and women like Matt. Thank you.

A really enjoyable listen.

This was my first audiobook and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Matt delivers the book really well and had me gripped very quickly.

Insightful, witty and brutally honest

Loved this deeply personal account of Matt's journey to Dad and Priest. Wonderful listening. Will revisit often for inspiration I have do doubt.

Inspiring and real

As a relatively new, young, Welsh Christian about to do his final panel, this book has helped wonders. Worrying about my sense of humour and my background has now turned into confidence. Confidence in being able to relate and connect with people who don’t know Jesus… Not a “watered-down Anglican version” of myself. Fantastic read for anyone who is worried about losing themselves trying to be the perfect priest.

Amazingly honest

Amazingly honest insight into the process and experience of following a call into ordained ministry. Full of humour, pain. Upset but most of all a message of the hope given to each of us through Christ

Insipirational

A fantastic book that only proves that christians are just your normal average person and that even as christians we doubt our faith from time to time.

Matt is a real inspiration.
