Summary

"In the summer of 1991 I was a normal kid. I did normal things. I had friends and a mother who loved me. I was just like you. Until the day my life was stolen. For eighteen years I was a prisoner. I was an object for someone to use and abuse. For eighteen years I was not allowed to speak my own name. I became a mother and was forced to be a sister. For eighteen years I survived an impossible situation. On August 26, 2009, I took my name back. My name is Jaycee Lee Dugard. I dont think of myself as a victim. I survived. A Stolen Life is my story in my own words, in my own way, exactly as I remember it."

An amazing story

I heard of her amazing release on the news a few years ago...the book was quite amazing to listen to her story, horrendous in many parts but must give hope to parents of missing children. Very interesting to listen to

Captivating

Thank you Jaycee, for having the courage to tell your amazing story. It is a story of survival in the most harrowing of circumstances. Not only did she survive but she has gained strength and has grown into a remarkable woman and mother. Hearing her story, read herself is a truly humbling experience and one that will stay with me for a long time. Not because you were a victim, but because of how you have survived.

Amazing woman.

Jaycee is an amazing woman. Tthis book is a testament to what a strong woman she is.
I was worried that it would be too graphic, but it isn’t. There is enough details to understand the torment and pain Jaycee went through without going into lots of graphic detail.

Powerful, Heart-Wrenching, and a Page-Turner

Jaycee Dugard's Memoir is the first audiobook I have listened to. When she told what had happened, I had to stop listening for a few minutes. It made me feel sick what he did to her. But I only had to read about the events. She had to experience them. She had the determination to survive. She came out of it with a positive outlook and a kind and caring person. Thanks to all the therapy she received after being found 18 years later. She has two daughters and is free to do anything she wants to do in life. She is a strong woman. My heart goes out to her for what she experienced in captivity, and I pray for her to have happiness and peace always.

Interesting read, but worst narration I've heard!

This story was heartbreaking to hear, and I admire her bravery for telling her truth. Sadly, she chose to narrate this book herself. Her voice was robotic and mono-toned (a 2/10 at best). It reaaaally made it a struggle to listen till the end.

Unbelievable, Shocking and Brave

What truly inspirational people Jaycee and her family are. To go through hell on earth and come out the other side full of hope and understanding. I was filled with different emotions throughout. Angry, tearful, hopeful and back again. A must listen for anybody who wants to know what a true hero looks and sounds like.

Best book i’ve ever read

I’ve read this book more than a dozen times since it was released 11 years ago. It’s my good old trusty book that I enjoy reading every time, her storytelling of her experiences and trauma at the hands of Phillip Garrido is mind blowing at times. to think of what she went through, it’s unfathomable. I recommend this to anyone with interest in true crime, her circumstances are special and before her, I don’t think theres a case of anyone kidnapped for as long as she was. She’s a true survivor and I can’t wait to read her second book now.
