Summary

Grammy Award, Best Spoken Word Album, 2016

Jimmy Carter, 39th president, Nobel Peace Prize winner, international humanitarian, fisherman, reflects on his full and happy life with pride, humor, and a few second thoughts.

At 90, Jimmy Carter reflects on his public and private life with a frankness that is disarming. He adds detail and emotion about his youth in rural Georgia that he described in his magnificent An Hour Before Daylight. He discusses racism and the isolation of the Carters. He describes the brutality of the hazing regimen at Annapolis, how he nearly lost his life twice serving on submarines, and his amazing interview with Admiral Rickover. He describes the profound influence his mother had on him and how he admired his father even though he didn't emulate him. He admits that he decided to quit the navy and later enter politics without consulting his wife, Rosalynn, and how appalled he is in retrospect.

In A Full Life, Carter tells what he is proud of and what he might do differently. He discusses his regret at losing his reelection but how he and Rosalynn pushed on and made a new life and second and third rewarding careers. He is frank about the presidents who have succeeded him, world leaders, and his passions for the causes he cares most about, particularly the condition of women and the deprived people of the developing world.

This is a wise and moving look back from this remarkable man. Jimmy Carter has lived one of our great American lives - from rural obscurity to world fame, universal respect, and contentment. A Full Life is an extraordinary listen.

An Amazing Life

Loved it. Jimmy reads poetically and with great feeling. He spirits you along and makes you feel like you're there. I was born while he was President so I have no memories of him and was astonished to learn what he achieved in office. Highly recommended.

Great Book

Great book about a great life. I'm 47 from the UK so know very little about the author but really enjoyed and would recommend this book. Although a long book it seemed to end too soon.

Beautiful man

Carter, the most Principled President of our lifetime, is an incredible man. I really enjoyed this book and often felt a little sad that Carter wasn’t as appreciated as he should have been during his time in office.

I particularly enjoyed his poetry.

A wonderful journey

One of America's most underrated presidents, but one of its greatest humanitarians. From his life as a young boy during the depression to his rise of becoming the President of the USA and beyond.

A Good Read

Having been born during his presidency, this version of his life’s memoir has done a great job at making me feel like I was watching events unfold through the years…

No doubt why he still has not been beaten by anyone on ground s of being the most decent American president…sadly some people have fallen for the ploy to label him weak. The real strength is that one which allows us the conviction to do right even when it seems the least popular thing to do.

A life fully lived indeed

A well told life. The early years and Whitehouse years I found really interesting, less so the chapter about his time in the Marines. A truly inspirational life told by the man who lived it with warmth and candour.
