Summary

The triumphant, gripping finale to Stephen King's magnificent, epic masterpiece.

Stephen King's epic fantasy series, The Dark Tower, is being made into a major movie starring Idris Elba and Matthew McConaughey. Due in cinemas February 17, 2017 USA.

The final volume sees gunslinger Roland on a roller-coaster mix of exhilarating triumph and aching loss in his unrelenting quest to reach the dark tower.

Roland's band of pilgrims remains united, though scattered. Susannah-Mia has been carried off to New York to give birth. Terrified of what may happen, Jake, Father Callahan and Oy follow.

Roland and Eddie are in Maine, looking for the site which will lead them to Susannah. As he finally closes in on the tower, Roland's every step is shadowed by a terrible and sinister creation. And finally, he realises, he may have to walk the last dark strait alone....

You've come this far, come a little farther, come all the way, the sound you hear may be the slamming of the door behind you. Welcome to The Dark Tower.

A Story Like No Other

Would you listen to The Dark Tower VII: The Dark Tower again? Why?

Yes, I would listen to the entire series again. The reader has the most perfect voice for this type of book, he plays the characters perfectly and allows you to get lost in the story.

What other book might you compare The Dark Tower VII: The Dark Tower to, and why?

The Dark Tower series is on par with J.R.Tolkien's Lord of The Rings. It is the story of a great quest, a quest to end or save the world. Every character breathes life into the story leaving you wanting more. Definitely cannot put these books down.

Which character – as performed by George Guidall – was your favourite?

I think George's voice for Suzannah is the funniest, he does it well but its still funny to hear him talking as a southern madam.

Did you have an emotional reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Cry AND Laugh! This book is what it feels like to be bi-polar. One moment you're in stiches, the next you're a blubbering mess! I don't want to give too much away but, it will definitely pull at your heart strings one way or another.

Any additional comments?

Stephen King is one of the best writers ever to grace this earth. I would recommend this book if you are a lover of fantasy, horror or science fiction. It has so many elements that it would be impossible to not please every reader out there.

Best set of novels ever

Possibly the best set of novels ever written in my opinion.. Stephen king is a master .. it’s a shame the film was a total disaster, it should of been 3 to 4 films long minimum not crammed into 2 1/2 hours

Terrible!

After Stephen King's accident did he get soul swapped for a really awful writer? I can't believe that a series that started so amazingly can end so terribly.

The last three books have been torture to read (in particular the dark tower took me three years to finally get through it), and I only finished hoping there would be a satisfying end (which I might add there wasn't). It's not so much how it ended that was bad - with further thought on the ending I can actually appreciate it - but what bugged me was all the garbage I had to get through to get there.

In the last three books all you find out about is Stephen King's accident (yes he wrote himself into the book) and a whole lot of random nonsensical words and phrases that made me wonder if he was on drugs while he was finishing the series! I think he stopped writing the series because he ran out of ideas after book four even though he knew how he wanted the series to end, and just because he finished it doesn't actually mean he found any ideas either... He just filled the space with random stuff that didn't actually matter.

So yet again I find I am disappointed by how a long series ends. Note to self: only read series that are complete, and where the author doesn't take a break from the series, else too much room to change into something awful.

I have also removed all other Stephen King books from my "to-read" list! (Yes this was just that bad!)

Dizzying heights

The tower is finally within reach and the ka-tet have been through such a journey. I can't really say more without spoilers. So you'll just have to accept that it was a great listen, but minus a star for feeling slightly shortchanged at the reveal.

3rd or 4th time listening

I've always enjoyed the Dark Tower series. I like the way a lot of Kings stories characters and scenes are incorporated but I didn't enjoy the vanity of writing himself in as a character. I get that he is ultimately God in writing the stories but I just didn't like those parts with him. Nonetheless a great volume and narrated well.

Childe Roland to the Dark Tower came…

Absolutely stunning. A brilliant end to the saga and perfectly narrated.
What a series, what a story. Holding back tears as I say goodbye again to the Ka-Tet of 19 and 99
