Addiction, pain, and explosive tempers are not exactly what you'd call the ingredients for a side-splitting comedy. Yet Steven Adly Guiguis has created a profane, hilarious masterpiece that earned a "hatful" of theatrical accolades in 2011, including a Drama Desk award for Outstanding Actor in a Play for Bobby Cannavale. Stars the original Broadway cast: Chris Rock, Bobby Canavale, Annabella Sciorra, Elizabeth Rodriguez and Yul Vazquez.
A 2011 Tony Award nominee for Best Play.
An L.A. Theatre Works full-cast performance featuring:
Chris Rock as Ralph D.
Bobby Cannavale as Jackie
Elizabeth Rodriguez as Veronica
Annabella Sciorra as Victoria
Yul Vázquez as Cousin Julio
Directed by Jace Alexander. Recorded by L.A. Theatre Works before a live audience.

Love literature - will read just about anything really - I have a couple of favourite authors and of course love the classics
I have listened to this dramatization many times. I have even invited my friends to listen to it with me because I enjoy it so much. It is a rollercoaster of emotions, which set you off having to listen to some load mouth crass women, central character, spouting off to her man and changing her tone to suit his answers. This sets the scene. It transcends to emotions from aggressive, explosive, loud mouth obscenities to threats, fearful anxieties and every emotion you can think of and - you are laughing at it! The actors are amazing at pulling off this story, so good in fact you can see them acting it out before your very eyes. You can feel every expression, visualise every guesture. Amazing talent, good story, with great twist in the tale. Fun to listen to. Well worth your money. Enjoy
"Hilarious and Unf**gettable"
One of the best.
See below...but also, the opening scene when Veronica was on the phone with her mother was astonishing.
All of them. It was especially riveting when the true identity of the Motherf***er With the Hat was revealed.
Laughed at the beginning; cried at the end.
As good as watching the stage play; Bobby Canavale was to die for.
"Humorous and Riveting Realness"
This is so comical , I laughed, So dramatical I quietly listened, so real, I cried.
Bobby Cannavale's performance, Guirgis' words.
Cannavale is so tough,vulnerable,and real.
My reaction was huge. Surprise. Shock at the unashamed, unbridled humanity of it all.
Yes. Great writing and the Actors were awesome.
It is a play so I cannot really compare.
Well worth the money
this was unexpected. I really enjoyed it. If you are not sure about what book to listen to this is a good one.
This is as good as it gets. Excellent performances, comically clever, lightening-speed dialogue, and a heartfelt message in the final analysis.
