It's many days since I listened to this dramatization and I still can't get it out of my head. It haunts you because it's so real and because the lady in the van is such denial. There are lovely pieces like when he says she has a lot of success when she stands her ground with officials and it's because they can't stand the smell so do whatever will get her out of there fast. I am using my new credits on more Alan Bennett dramatizations. They are excellent. I love that you can hear the audios as there are some books I would have bought had this not been possible, and then been disappointed with the reader.
Audible addict. Listens while commuting, walking and any chance possible. Enjoys all genres although is yet to read a sporting biography.
This is everything you should expect from Alan Bennett and Maggie Smith. Brilliant dialogue and flawless presentation.
This is a gem. The language is brilliant with the true British understated comedy. Maggie Smith is excellent but Adrian Scarborough steals the show with his superb caricature
