"In the middle of the road of my life, I awoke in a dark wood, where the true way was wholly lost."
When you find yourself without bearings, as Dante Alighieri voiced so well centuries ago, where will you look for guidance? Throughout the ages, teaches David Whyte, the language of poetry has held the power to lend us courage, to give us the vision of those who endured, and to hazard ourselves boldly at the fierce edges of our lives. In Clear Mind, Wild Heart, you will join this acclaimed poet and teacher to engage with the poetic imagination as your companion and guide for the difficult terrain we are all traversing. Poetry, teaches Whyte, offers immediate and powerful tools unique from any other tradition. It can help us to see beyond the fragile surfaces of our lives, open us to the universal cycles and patterns that shape our lives, and awaken our conversation with what has been called the Untouchable, the Numinous, or the Eternal.
Clear Mind, Wild Heart guides you into the wellspring of this living poetic tradition through six hours of exploration and poetry with David Whyte, including the verses of such inspired voices as Emily Dickinson, William Blake, W. B. Yeats, Marina Tsvetayeva, Rainer Maria Rilke, Antonio Machado, and others. Through their words you will discover how to apprentice yourself to beauty and find a place of belonging where you can hold loss and grief, the challenges of change, and the wonder of new discovery and adventure. The language of poetry takes us outside of our small selves and calls us to look at ourselves and the world with open eyes, teaches David Whyte. Whether you are a lifelong poetry lover or new to its insights and pleasures, Clear Mind, Wild Heart is an inspiring guide to answering that call.

Such depth of wisdom and compassionately delivered. A wonderful meditation on life, love, suffering and enlightenment. Illustrated richly with poems of his own and other great poets. One I will return to again and again.
"Such an inspirational whole-hearted and animated contribution to the world"
May more beings listen to, reflect and practice these offerings by David for a richer, more fulfilled humanity.
"Great reading - some content same as midlife and the great unknown"
Great audio book and I love when the author reads it. David brings together great thoughts and perspectives on life.
Note: if you've listens to midlife and the great unknown there are a few sections that are the same. That's not necessarily a bad thing. I could use the repetition. More of a heads up.
"An opportunity to touch your own heart!"
Through poems, written by himself and other poets, David takes us in a reflection journey that opens up the heart, soul and mind that leads into the discovery of glimpses of our selves.
To listen and re-listen many times!
This is packed with wisdom. I listen over and over and each time I learn something new or understand something differently.
"Profound and dramatically spoken"
I have found this book quite surprisingly moving, giving me lots of things to think about after I listen to a chapter or even just a few poems. I find myself going over in my mind the next day, the poems that David Whyte read. They stay with me much longer than poems I read out of a book myself and he weaves these lovely insights through the poetry. They are really meditations on different aspects of life. I'm listening and re-listening to the 4th chapter on vocation and find more and different resonances and affirmations each time I go through it.
This is book very much worth the time you spend listening. Much more rewarding than most novels, which, once the plot is complete, often leave very little behind.
"I can't describe how grateful I am to have heard this"
Soooo deep, subtle, beautiful.. Puts into words experiences and concepts that are very difficult to put into words, but does so beautifully.. This makes it be ok for me to be where I am as I am, and reminds me of a world and way of looking at the world that I love that I can choose to include in my life
"A gem of a listen"
David's voice is ever so soothing. The truths he speaks about the human experience are profound. His inquiries into the way of the world are very beautiful and come from a place of deep thought and spirit.
I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys looking to peel back the layers of meaning on some of David's great poems and also some others such a Rilke. Real enjoy ale listen, I'm definitely going to listen to this one time after time.
Memorable, excellent road trip companion, beautifully done
I love the way David Whyte explores poetry in relationship to life passages and frontiers of growing. I have listened to this so many times I know lines of it by heart!
Excellent narrator--loved the poets, like Mary Oliver, whose work he recites and illuminates.
David Whyte is a writer whose work I prefer listening to than reading on the page. He's a master teacher!
