Summary

A new, and for the first time, full-cast dramatisation of Laurie Lee's lyrical autobiography of his childhood in a secluded Cotswold valley. Recorded on location at Westley Farm and the Woolpack Inn in Gloucestershire, Cider with Rosie stars Tim McInnerny as the narrator and Niamh Cusack as Mother.

Halcyon days of flower-filled meadows, home-made wines, enthralling stories, and church outings were the essence of his childhood. But there was a harsher side too, leaving the security of his mother's bed, a death close to home, and days at the village school marred by a sadistic teacher, were all part of growing up. As was Rosie. And after his encounter with her under the haywain, Laurie Lee was "never the same again".

Extract

I hadn't realised that this was just an extract from the book and not the whole story. I enjoyed it and am looking forward to reading the book now, but I was bitterly disappointed when it finished abruptly after 2 chapters. Buyer beware!

FABULOUS FANTASY LOVE IT ❤️

I have a collection of Cider With Rosie by various actors on TV and audio and this one is just as good. I have a copy of the book 1st edition first print and never tire of reading nor listening to Laurie’s account of his childhood. There is just so much nostalgia and feeling in this work that you return to the book or to these radio accounts time after time when you need a relaxing few hours about a time that no longer exists and takes you into the fantasy of a world gone by. Cider with Rosie is so full of images it makes you drift along enraptured into a bundle of feelings personal to each individual listener. That’s great writing, almost magic.

Good listen for a long car journey.

Not 5 stars because spoilt by too many kids screaming and squealing in the play which was a bit stressful. Otherwise it's a quick experience of the book whilst on the road.
