Some agents have all the fun. Others save the world.
Bob Howard is an IT expert and occasional field agent for The Laundry, the branch of Her Majesty's Secret Service that deals with occult threats.
Dressed (grudgingly) in a tux and sent to the Caribbean, he must infiltrate a millionaire's yacht in order to prevent him violating a treaty that will start a war with an ancient underwater race. Partnered with a gorgeous American agent who's actually a soul-sucking succubus from another dimension, Bob's mission is to stop the bad guys, avoid getting the girl, and survive - shaken, perhaps, but not stirred. This audiobook includes the short story Pimpf, and an afterword read by the author.

I have already recommended this series to friends - they are in I.T. and I'm sure they wish they could raise demons in MS windows
its a bit Mike Carey , a bit James Bond (well ok a lot James Bond but thats to be expected given the poor lead is forced to act like the eponymous JB by computer driven magic)
he brings the ordinary man in the street who happens to have a job working for a supernatural government agency to life - with humour and whit and his characterisation doesn't falter
Charles Stross puts the fun in fundamental physics and maths, and dont you wish you could do magic with a AAA battery, some wire and a calculator
i hope to see many more of Charles Stross novels on audible
This series is quite the most bizarre collection of ideas ever put together on paper, shear genius.
If you enjoy Douglas Adams you should enjoy these.
Apocalyptic demons, a reluctant hero who's an I.T expert, health and safety, spies, arse kicking femme fatales, lots of computer stuff, more demons, the Gestapo ( yes you read that right ), modern day office politics, a mix of James Bond but on a budget, with expense forms filled in in triplicate of course, mega villans, the end of the world, great gadgets and all with a great sense of humour.
This is a HUGELY entertaining book on many levels.
Firstly it is a cracking adventure story.
Secondly it is the best pastiche of a Bond story ever.
Thirdly it is a masterful disection – with the cleverest self-conscious reason – to pull apart every aspect of that form.
I won't spoil how it does that, but it is very satisfying.
Note to Audible and the publishers: WHERE ARE THE OTHER LAUNDRY FILES BOOKS?
They are available on Audible.com, but not, for some reason here in the UK. Clarles Stross is a British writer, please, please sort this out.
Bob Howard is just an ordinary guy doing extraordinary things in an extraordinary world and the blend of fantastic with common sense is refreshing. Jennifer Morgue is better than the first book. It concentrates more on the characters and how they think and react as opposed to the other world that dominated the first. Each of the key players is much more believable and they react in a very human manners.
Jack Hawkins captures the emotion of the characters and it feels as though the characters are actually living the experience of the book.
Please record more of the Laundry file books
old and grey and love tec and some not too phantastical fantasy
Why are files 3 and 4 not available ,,,soooo irritating. If u like Rivers of London then u should enjoy this. Very funny in parts and horror in others (sometimes at the same time), The combination of the phantastical and civil service protocal is a joy. The narrator's voice is just right ...dont change him,
"I had so much fun"
Great take on an a spy agent.
