Having spent a lot of my formative years in these parts of Africa I find it very easy to relate to Wilbur Smith's vivid descriptions of the African velt, the culture and humanity of its peoples, its heat, rain, and of course his animals are all very alive. I read this book, and its sequels, when they first came out in print and now I (at age 70) can re-live the colour and excitement. You can become addicted to Wilbur Smith, but DO NOT GET THE ABRIDGED versions, they are not well edited and a lot of the stories are lost to the listener.
I found this book too short ,even though I loved and relished every page I hated that it was over so fast ,Michael Courtney wul be missed ,so sad to know he leaves the book so early .
