Jason Bourne, international assassin of deadly repute, was an identity assumed by covert agent David Webb. Retired from the CIA and now a professor at Georgetown University, Webb's life is finally his own, until he becomes the target of an assassin and is framed for the murder of his two closest associates. Fighting for his life against unseen assailants, the Bourne identity asserts itself, leaving Jason Bourne in control. Barely a half-step ahead of his nemesis and the CIA, who believes he has gone rogue, Bourne finds himself a pawn in a larger, far deadlier game.

What the Critics Say

"Scott Brick is one of the fastest-rising stars in the audiobook galaxy. His understated approach to each book serves him well, and whether he is handling a roomful of Russian generals or a series of dizzying scene changes, the listener stays with him for every word." (AudioFile)

    "Excellent audiobook"

The book is very well narrated, he has a nice American accent and is able to put feeling into the text where necessary. This comes across much better than it did in film. I haven't listened to many audio books but I would recommend this one, I didn't want to stop listening!

"A fair read but nothing special"
Is there anything you would change about this book?

If there were something to make the plot less predictable that would be great. Van Lustbader's writing is just not to the standard of Ludlum.

Was The Bourne Legacy worth the listening time?

It was a light read. I did finish it but I wasn't particularly satisfied.

    "Edge of my seat"

I loved this audio novel, well-narrated and gripping to the end.

The only reason it doesn't get a full five stars it that there were a few holes in the plot. But for me Van Lustbader has managed to recreate the Bourne magic of Ludlum's classic creation.

    "not quite sure"

I listened to the end and the plot was good but the 'discovering his son' bit was just dodgy. Tried to be too deep and lacked something of the real books. It sort of annoyed me at times and isn't for everyone although the author captures most of the action stuff well.

Just don't do the deep faily stuff again please

    "exceptional"

With nail-biting suspense and heart-pounding chases galore, Eric Van Lustbader with great triumph continues Ludlum’s immortal Bourne series. In typical Ludlum style, the novel begins explosively and retains the breathless pace throughout,

Beyond the usual hijinks including car chases, incredible escapes, breathless feats of action and more, one interesting track this story takes is to explore Webb’s tragic past in Cambodia and how it converts him into the killer Bourne

    "A true thriller"

A superb story well crafted and well paced. Overall the narrator (Scott Brick) does an excellent job, but just occasionally he lapses into a sing-song voice that I found inappropriate and a little annoying. I got over it though. So far as the presentation by Audible is concerned, the only criticism I have is the Chapter settings - they don't correspond to the chapters in the book. Why not?

    "Really bad"

Too bad that the stars don't go negative.
The plot was dumb, the situations absurd. It has been said that the difference between reality and fiction is that fiction has to make sense. In this case it isn't fiction but cartoon. In cartoons, the characters can do anything, like fall from a jet cargo plane just before take-off(the speed would be over 120mph)onto the tarmac, then the next thing you know, the character appears, completely unhurt in another scene.

His adversary is watching him every step of the way, yet he has time to fashion a net of vines and trap the hapless antagonist - who, of course, gets away quickly and easily.

The story contains one silly episode after another. I only got to disc 6 and got that far only because it was the only book I brought on the trip. I can't bring myself to waste time finishing it.

    "Dissapointed"

I have been a Ludlem and Jason Bourne fan over many years and loved the previous three Bourne thrillers. However I was dissapointed with this listen. The character insight was unusually weak, not giving the usual intimate insight into the thoughts, feelings and struggles of Jason/David that the previous books did and didn't do him justice in my opinion. The plot was good, but not brilliant but brought the threads from the initial book together.
Overall it was ok , but a little dissapointing. I was not captivated by it and found it a little long winded.
Biggest selling point was the excellent narration.

The storyline and action is fantastic, but the profanity is amazingly frequent, with JC and GD galore...I had to quit the book after only a few chapters due to the frequency.

    "A new author is Borne"

Ok, bad pun. This book was very interesting. It was very fast pace and had a very interesting plot. Well flushed out characters that were very believable. The death of the villan was quite anti-climatic but I'll let it go for the overall story. The absolute non Ludlum Borne book.
