Summary

In the wake of a devastating double homicide by one of their own, the army takes matters into their own hands to hunt down the man responsible. In a tense race to stop a civilian terrorist attack, it's down to an elite team to take on the shadowy forces that lie in wait.

When a British Special Forces soldier goes rogue, carrying out an attack at a US Army base in Syria leading to the death of two men, ex-MI5 controller Charlotte Button is hired to work out what his plan is and to take him down before he can carry it out.

When the man returns to the UK, it looks like the threat will be a lot closer to home. Charlotte puts her best man on the case - hitman Lex Harper. It's up to Lex to assemble a crack team and get to the soldier before he carries out what could be a massive terrorist attack. But Charlotte might require Lex's help with a more personal problem, too. As ex-MI5, Charlotte knows a lot of information about a lot of important people. And now someone has gone to extreme lengths to get to that information by breaking into her safe deposit box in a Hatton Garden-style armed robbery.

While it's down to Lex to prevent a potential terrorist attack on British soil, Charlotte must work out who is after her and what they want.

Brilliant

Absolutely brilliant. Why isn't this on the big screen ? What a film it would be. I would recommend listening to this one after Charlotte has left the secret service in the Dan Shepherd series.
In my job I drive a lot. I didn't want to get out of the car. Got engrossed in this story. Like all Stephen Leather books this one has you drawn in from the start.
Paul Thornley is on top form too.
Brilliant.

As good as it gets from Mr Leather

The story is good that’s a given. The narrator is excellent could listen to Paul Thornley all day. I find the characters totally authentic. Why listen to one book when you can download them all

Glad to see Charlotte Button back!

I was gutted when Charlie was booted out of the Shepherd series, as I really enjoyed her and Dan's relationship. So I'm glad she's back in full swing, with Lex Harper, with less rules to manoeuvre! Harper is great; his sense of morality and brutal justice makes him the perfect assassin.

Lex Harper the man of many accents!

I’ve no superlatives left for Stephen Leather and Paul Thornley as a writer/narrator duo, none!

Just one thing; So far Lex Harper has been mainly Scottish then he was Home Counties English and now in this book he’s either posh scouse or somewhere close to Merseyside. Why the continual change with Lex’s accent?
