Summary

Of all Robert Ludlum's best sellers, the Bourne novels remain among his most-read, most listened-to, and most-loved. Re-enter the shadowy world of Jason Bourne, an expert assassin like no other, in this latest fast-paced, action-packed instalment that shows why Ludlum still remains the unsurpassed master of the genre.

Bourne's enemies are gathering force. Severus Domna, a secret and ancient cabal, has called forth its members from around the globe, with one objective: to vanquish the last person capable of destroying their bid to de-stabilize the world economy: Jason Bourne. But how can they possibly succeed where so many others have failed? By turning Bourne's most trusted friend into his greatest - and most deadly - enemy.

Boris Karpov has reached the pinnacle of his career. He has taken over one of the most powerful security organisations in the world - but at a price. Karpov agreed to a devil's pact with the former head, and now he has to deliver. But it's far worse than anything Karpov could have imagined - he must kill his oldest friend, Jason Bourne.

Now Bourne finds himself in a world where friend and foe go hand-in-hand. Bourne's journey will lead him down a path of brutal murder and destruction - one from which there is no escape....

Bourne is back, and this time the stakes are higher than ever.

Why the music

Quite hard to get into the book . The readers voice not so good, but the worst thing was the music played in the action parts.. Did not Finnish the book . The music was just so bad... Richie

How many could people could be killed in a book?

Apparently one too many!
It starts with a lot of noise and the background music makes it very hard to understand or to follow what's going on, then it jumps from there. Every 5 seconds somebody dies most brutally, so at the end there is not many people to follow. Bourne does not eat, sleep or do anything at all but kill, kill, kill...
Maybe it would look better on a movie screen. As a book, it a big chunk of time to waste!

Terrible disappointment

I loved the Bourne movies, so I was excited about the opportunity to listen to this book during my journeys to and from work. There are some exciting action scenes with narrow escapes, some interesting characters, a shady multinational terror organisation etc. My problem was that it didn't hold my interest - I couldn't see the coherent and overarching plot and I was bored by the long sections of dialogue. Because of this, even the action scenes lacked any interest. I found that I didn't care what happened - and so I gave up half-way through.

Very disappointing

I think it might be time for Eric Van Lustbader or Robert Ludlum's estate to stop writing these now because I think they've exhausted the franchise.
I've read the three originals and all the previous Van Lustbader books and enjoyed them all. In fact I think I enjoyed the Van Lustbader ones more because they weren't quite as complex and were a bit more up to date but I wasn't able to continue with this book, I found it so cheesy. Adding music has not helped - 'exciting' music when some action is about to kick off does nothing for me, I'm afraid.

Potential but ruined with over production.

This is the first Audio book I have ever struggled with and at times have had to push myself to listen on. There are so many characters and storylines it is hard to keep up, particularly if not listening to the whole book in a short space of time (didn't listen for 3 days and had quite literally lost the plot).

The American narrater does a good job managing the many accents he uses but his use of 'English' is often hard to take in and after a while the voice became grating.

Worst thing about the book are the musical interludes (designed to add tension I suppose) that make the narration hard to hear and become increasingly annoying.

Better than expected

Contrary to recent reviews, I thought the latest version was quite a good listen.
From the first moments I was gripped by the narration and how the narrator described the characters and settings.
I think due to the success of the films, peoples expectations are very different once they read/listen to the book.

Plot very confusing. Difficult to follow. Attempt to include sound effects fair.
Needs improvement quickly

A good addition to the series.

I enjoyed the storyline and it blended well with the other stories. Now I need to find the next one in the series.

Over complicated

I persisted with this book, but what a struggle, it's over complicated, written for the film industry I imagine, it's part of a set as the ending is so sudden and so unsatisfactory there must be another to follow. I will not read/ listen to it. I m still trying to work out the plot, who's who and the connections between them. Was a Bourne fan, but not this series.
