(P)2006 Brilliance Audio, Inc.
I read this book years ago and looked forward to listening to it. I regret buying the abridged version I found it less than satisfying.
The written book Yes the abridged audio book No
In this instance nothing However I would like to hear him read an unabridged version
There are other books featuring the Old Dog andmany of the charachters in this book so the question is meaningless
A mediocre score has been given only because having read the book I found the cuts made to the abridged version spoiled my listening pleasure. If you have not read the book then this audio version may hold more attraction for you then is has for me
brilliantly read and dale brown at his best.all the aviation action you could ever wish for.five stars out of five.highly recommended.
"Great story killed by terrbile narrator"
I have been a Dale Brown fan for years and read pretty much everything he wrote as it was published in hardcover. Now I listen to audiobooks to while away the time on my long weekly drives. I loved this book when I read it years ago, and was looking forward to hearing it, and maybe getting a slightly different experience through the narration, as often happens with a really good narrator. But this narrator is the worst I have ever heard. He speaks way too fast, uses a monotone no matter what is happening in the story and all his characters sound alike. When he really tries to portray a different ethnicity his Russian sounds like a Japanese character out of a bad WWII movie. This is my first review ever, and after just finishing Clancy's Dead or Alive read by Lou Diamind Philips (a fantastic narrator) listening to Richard Allen was like getting my wisdom teeth pulled. Never again. Save your money. Listening to this was truly awful. Thank god it was short.
"Great book , audio seriously abbridged"
it's a great book, and the audio is great for what it covers. however so much was left out that the meat of the story kind of falls apart.
"Dale Brown ... brilliant"
What do you expect from Dale Brown. He is just great. He needs to write faster then we can read.
I read the book years ago. was nice hearing the audio version of it. Brought back great memories of my time spent in SAC. Dale Brown...keep the amazing books coming.

"Best of the "Cold War" era books"
The flight back
he does justice to what was in my head when i read the book
"The Cold War comes to your car!"
This is a great adaptation of a great book!
This is an abridged version...if you have read the book, you will miss some of the character development but in the end a very good version.
"all action - in true James Bond style"
an engaging trip in a modified B52 - detail was lacking in places but still a cracking good listen
