Summary

Tunisia 1943 - the Allies' advance is halted by determined Axis forces. The 8th Army has no choice but to outflank the enemy along their impenetrable Mareth line in the hellish Matmata hills. On a mission to safeguard this movement, Captain Tom Caine's SAS patrol is diverted by a strange emergency signal that draws them to a derelict aircraft and a mysterious black box.

Besieged by a Nazi Death's Head unit intent on retrieving the box and betrayed by a comrade who steals it, Caine must make a choice. Should he pursue the stolen object or stick to his original task and face almost certain death? The entire campaign rests on his decision.

Excellent Read

Where does Death or Glory: Highroad to Hell rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

I would rate Death or Glory: Highroad to Hell as one on my top 20 books. In fact it would be in my top 10.

What did you like best about this story?

I particularly enjoyed the fast movement. There was action in every chapter and Captain Tom Caine was an earthly but complex individual who displayed many facets to his character.

What about Paul Thornley’s performance did you like?

Paul Thornley is almost certainly my favourite narrator. He brings all the books he reads to life and obviously enjoys narrating which comes across when reading.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

I was moved by the loyalty that Cain's men had for him and would even give their lives for him.

Any additional comments?

This is the first book I have read by Michael Asher, and I was very impressed. It won't be my last either.

Riveting

Very good series. A highly recommended listen. Good story told well by Paul Thornley. Well written &
woven around historical fact. Can't praise it enough. Off to look now to see if book 4 is also available as audio.
