Wonderful narration is a skill which not everyone is up to: Actors must be able to maintain multiple characters realistically, while keeping the story going and the listener engaged. Here we highlight some of the well known actors who have lent their talent to audiobooks, allowing you to enjoy an intimate experience with the star and their voice.

Martin Freeman
From love-sick Tim in The Office to Bilbo Baggins in Peter Jackson's The Hobbit, Martin Freeman is now a familiar British face and voice on the big and small screen. He won the Best Supporting Actor BAFTA award in 2011 for his role as Watson in the TV series Sherlock, and also starred as Arthur Dent in the film adaptation of The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. Freeman narrates four of Douglas Adams' Hitchhiker's series audiobooks.

Matt Dillon
Originally a teen star in Tex, The Outsiders and Rumble Fish, Matt Dillon has since matured into one of Hollywood's most enjoyable actors to watch on screen with a wonderful versatility in his acting range. Dillon struck gold with the critics with his performance in the uncompromising Gus van Sant film about drug addicts, Drugstore Cowboy. Other films include To Die For, Wild Things, There's Something About Mary and, for his work in the Best Picture Academy Award winner Crash, Dillon received a long-overdue Oscar nomination, as Best Supporting Actor.

Jeremy Irons
Quintessentially English actor Irons has starred in several highly acclaimed films, including Reversal of Fortune, Die Hard with a Vengeance, Lolita, and Being Julia. Following his characterisation of Scar in The Lion King (a ridiculously scary villain for a Disney film), we think he has a wonderful voice for audio narration.

Dan Stevens
One of our favourite and most prolific narrators at audible.co.uk, Dan Stevens is now most famous for his role as Matthew Crawley in the ITV drama Downton Abbey. Dan's other notable TV roles include Edward Ferrars in the BBC adaptation of Sense and Sensibility and Nick Guest in the BBC adaptation of The Line Of Beauty.

Laura Linney
One of those actresses who is strong in everything she does, yet doesn't take the limelight, you'll recognise Laura from films such as Lorenzo's Oil, Primal Fear, Absolute Power, The Truman Show, You Can Count on Me, The House of Mirth, Mystic River and Love, Actually.

Joe Thomas
Best known for his role as Simon Cooper in the E4 sitcom The Inbetweeners, Joe Thomas was the perfect casting for Ben Master's wildly entertaining debut novel. It's the last night of University - Eliot and his friends must make a reckoning with everything that has gone by. Here it comes: the pints, the shots, the pubs, the clubs, the jokes, the snogs, the fumbles, the memories, the secrets, the lies told, the 3AM hard truths, the bubble bursting, the tearing up of everything, the start and rush of the rest of your life.

The Stars of Beatrix Potter
a collection of four original Beatrix Potter stories that all feature in the movie Miss Potter, read by Renée Zellweger, Ewan McGregor, Emily Watson and Lloyd Owen.

Hilary Swank
In Pack of Two, the author of the acclaimed best seller Drinking: A Love Story tackles a different sort of relationship. Two-time Academy Award-winning actress Hilary Swank (Boys Don't Cry, Million Dollar Baby) guides us into the life of Caroline Knapp who, after losing both parents to cancer and breaking off a two-decade long relationship with alcohol in the span of one year, struggles - and succeeds - to redefine her world. The unlikely solution to Knapp's task was found in the form of a dog named Lucille.

    3.90 (97 ratings)
The modern audience hasn't had a chance to truly appreciate the unknowing dread that readers would have felt when reading Bram Stoker's original 1897 manuscript. Most modern productions employ campiness or sound effects to try to bring back that gothic tension, but we've tried something different. By returning to Stoker's original storytelling structure - a series of letters and journal entries voiced by Jonathan Harker, Dr. Van Helsing, and other characters - with an all-star cast of narrators, we've sought to recapture its originally intended horror and power.
