    There is no limit to the number of entries you can submit.

    Conditions of entry

    You must follow and meet the following requirements when entering the Competition:

  • By accepting these Rules and by entering this Competition, you represent and warrant you are the legitimate author of your Entry; that you own all right, title and interest in and to the content of the Entry, including intellectual property, moral or proprietary right; and you have received the written consent of any person (or parent or legal guardian if such person is a minor) who appears or is identifiable in any Entry. If you appear or are identifiable in your Entry, you consent, by submitting your Entry, to our use of your name, likeness, photograph or image, whether in writing, audio, and/or video, for any purpose, in any media, without compensation or additional consideration. We may at any time during the Competition request proof of such consent(s) and disqualify any Entry for which such consent(s) cannot be provided. We will share your information with third parties that have a need to know for the purposes of administering the Competition (such as the judging panel), and by entering, you agree to the sharing of your information with third parties we retain to assist in administering the Competition. If you do not agree to these Official Rules or to our privacy notice please do not submit an entry.

    First Round. Each entry received during the Entry Period will be considered on its commercial viability and artistic merit, as determined by experienced members of the Audible team. Three finalists (each a 'Finalist') will be selected and announced by no later than 1 March 2018 (the 'Finalist Announcement Date'). We will not contact you if you are not selected as a Finalist. Each Finalist will be notified by phone or e-mail.

    Each Finalist will have seven days from the date of our notice to respond and confirm acceptance of the Finalist Prize (defined below). If a Finalist (or any substitute Finalist) is disqualified, ineligible, cannot be reached, or fails to claim the Finalist Prize within seven days of our notice, that Finalist (or substitute Finalist) will forfeit the Finalist Prize and it will be awarded to the entrant who submitted the next highest rated entry, as determined by Audible experts in their sole discretion. If, having attempted to contact a Finalist and the substitute winner for such Finalist, we are unable to award a Finalist Prize, we reserve the right to consider such Finalist Prize unclaimed.

    Final Round. Between the Finalist Announcement Date and the date of the announcement of the overall winner (no later than 31 May 2018 – the 'Winner's Announcement Date') each Finalist's entry will be rated and compared against the other Finalist entries by a panel of experts appointed by Audible using the following criteria (i) originality; (ii) suitability for the audio format; (iii) creativity; and (iv) quality of writing (collectively, the 'Judging Criteria'). One Grant Prize winner will be selected based on the Judging Criteria.

    The Grant Prize winner will have seven days from the date of our notice to respond and confirm acceptance of the Grant Prize (as defined below). If the Grant Prize winner (or any substitute winner) is disqualified, ineligible, cannot be reached, or fails to claim the Grant Prize within seven days of our notice, that Grant Prize winner (or substitute winner) will forfeit the Grant Prize and it will be awarded to the entrant who submitted the next highest rated entry. If, having attempted to contact the Grant Prize winner and the next two substitute Grant Prize winners, we are unable to award the Grant Prize, we reserve the right to consider the Grant Prize unclaimed.

    All decisions of Audible and the judging panel are final and binding, at the judge's sole discretion, and no correspondence will be entered into. Non-winners will not be notified. The name of the Finalists and Grant Prize winner will be provided on receipt of a written request sent to Audible’s offices (address below) within 30 days of the award of the applicable prize.

    Each Finalist will receive:

  • an offer to enter into a Licence and Distribution Agreement with Audible, granting Audible the exclusive worldwide publication rights in audio format of the Grant Prize winner's entry, as determined by Audible in its sole discretion;
  • an invitation for an all-expenses-paid trip to the Audible studios in central London, where they will be given interactive studio training to experience how an audiobook is made; and
  • an all-expenses-paid invitation to the event (if Audible hosts such event) where the Competition winner will be announced (each a 'Finalist Prize').
  • In addition to the Finalist Prize, one Grant Prize winner will receive the following (collectively, the 'Grant Prize'):

  • An exclusive audio publishing agreement with Audible granting Audible the exclusive worldwide publication rights in audio format for the Grant Prize winner's entry in English (the 'Licence & Distribution Agreement');
  • A £10,000 cash advance, as part of the Licence & Distribution Agreement, to be direct deposited or electronically wired to the Grant Prize winner's account;
  • A book launch merchandising package on Audible.co.uk for the launch of the winner's Entry; and
  • The opportunity to participate in a mentoring session with a successful crime and thriller author selected by Audible.
  • Costs, taxes

    Each Finalist and the Grant Prize winner will be responsible for paying all costs and expenses related to the applicable prize(s) that are not specifically mentioned, including, but not limited to, taxes, and any other expenses that might reasonably be incurred by the winner in receiving or using the prize. Each winner may be required to submit tax filing information in order to claim the prize. All prizes awarded will be inclusive of any taxes we are required by law to withhold as well as applicable sales, use, gross receipts, goods and service, or similar transaction based taxes, as determined by us in our sole discretion. All other taxes, costs and expenses associated with acceptance and use of any prize not specified in these Official Rules as being provided are the sole responsibility of the winners. IF TAXES ARE APPLICABLE TO THE PRIZES, IT IS THE RESPONSIBILITY OF THE WINNER TO PAY TO THE APPROPRIATE AUTHORITIES. PAYMENTS TO COMPETITION WINNERS ARE SUBJECT TO THE EXPRESS REQUIREMENT THAT THE WINNER SUBMIT ALL DOCUMENTATION REQUESTED BY US TO PERMIT COMPLIANCE WITH ALL APPLICABLE TAX REPORTING AND WITHHOLDING REQUIREMENTS. Finalists are responsible for ensuring the tax documentation submitted complies with all applicable tax laws and requirements. If a Finalist fails to provide documentation or submits incomplete documentation, the prize may be forfeited and we may, in our sole discretion, select an alternate winner.

    We reserve the right to substitute any prize (or portion thereof) for an item of comparable or greater value, in our sole discretion.

    Grant of rights

    If at any point after submitting your Entry, we contact you in writing to notify you that you are being considered as a potential Finalist, or that you are a Finalist, and you agree, then from the time of your agreement you grant to Audible, exclusively, the first worldwide publication rights to your entry in all audio formats, until such time as either (i) your Entry is eliminated from the Competition or (ii) you become the Grant Prize Winner.

    You agree that extracts from your Entry (no longer than 5,000 words), may (without charge) be copied, recorded in digital audio format by us, and may be posted on any website owned and/or operated by us or any of our affiliates ('Audible Site'), our pages on social media websites, such as Facebook, Twitter or Instagram, and any other website or other online point of presence on any platform, through which any products or services available on or through the Audible Site are described, offered, merchandised or advertised, anywhere in the world. Our decision to reproduce, record or post an extract from an Entry does not mean the Entry has been selected as a Finalist or the Grant Prize winner.

    In addition, to the extent that any moral right of attribution applies to our use of extracts described above, you waive (and to the extent that these rights may not be waived, agree not to assert) such rights in your entry for purposes of this Competition. This will enable us to post extracts without revealing your identity.

    Conditions of participation

    Each Finalist may be required to sign and return an Eligibility Affidavit and a Liability and Publicity Release or other such form as requested by us. Prior to awarding a prize, we may, in our sole discretion, require the Finalists to sign the Licence and Distribution Agreement (which will be conditional on them winning the Grant Prize) and such additional documents we decide are necessary to confirm eligibility, to obtain a liability/publicity release, and to award any prize. Failure to return any required document by the date requested will deem the winner ineligible to receive the prize.

    Additional terms

    To the maximum extent permitted by law, we reserve the right, in our sole discretion, to change these Rules or cancel the Competition at any time, or to modify, terminate, or suspend the Competition should viruses, worms, bugs, unauthorized human intervention, or other causes beyond our control corrupt or impair the administration, security, fairness, or proper play of the Competition or submission of entries, or in the event we do not receive a minimum of 500 qualified entries from separate eligible entrants. We are not responsible for any human or other error that may occur in the processing of the entries, nor are we responsible for any error, omission, interruption, deletion, defect, delay in operation or transmission, theft or destruction, or unauthorized access to, or alteration of, entries, or for technical, network, telephone, computer, hardware or software, malfunctions of any kind, or inaccurate transmission of, or failure to receive any entry information on account of technical problems or traffic congestion on the Internet or at any website. We are not responsible for injury or damage to any entrant's or any other computer resulting from downloading any materials in connection with the Competition. We reserve the right, in our sole discretion, to disqualify any individual found to be tampering with the entry process, the outcome of the Competition, or the operation of the Competition or website; to be acting in violation of these Official Rules; or to be acting in an unsportsmanlike or disruptive manner or with intent to annoy, abuse, threaten, or harass any other person. CAUTION: ANY ATTEMPT BY ANY INDIVIDUAL TO DELIBERATELY DAMAGE ANY WEBSITE OR UNDERMINE THE LEGITIMATE OPERATION OF THE COMPETITION MAY BE A VIOLATION OF CRIMINAL AND CIVIL LAWS, AND SHOULD SUCH AN ATTEMPT BE MADE, WE AND OUR AFFILIATES RESERVE THE RIGHT TO SEEK DAMAGES AND/OR OTHER RELIEF FROM ANY SUCH PERSON TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW.

    No transfer, assignment, cash redemption or substitution of prizes is permitted except by us. Our servers and clock will be the official clock for the Entry Period, and your proof of a submission does not constitute proof of receipt by us. We are not responsible for (i) lost, misdirected, late, incomplete, or unintelligible entries or for inaccurate entry information, whether caused by entrant or by any of the equipment or programming associated with or utilised in the Competition, or by any technical or human error that may occur in the processing of entries; or (ii) any printing, production, human or typographical errors in any materials associated with the Competition.

    The Competition is governed by the laws of England & Wales. As a condition of entering in this Competition, you agree that any and all disputes which cannot be resolved between us, and causes of action arising out of or in connection with this Competition, shall be resolved individually, without resort to any form of class action, and submit to the non-exclusive jurisdiction and venue of the courts of England & Wales. Further, in any such dispute, under no circumstances will you be permitted to obtain awards for, and you hereby waive all rights to claim punitive, incidental or consequential damages, including lawyer's fees, other than your actual out-of-pocket expenses (e.g. costs associated with entering). You agree that the decisions of Audible and the judges related to the Competition are final.
