I really enjoyed this audiobook, it was so good and highly recommend it. Even my husband ended up listening to some of it and liked it :-) it really catches you and you just don't want to stop listening.

I have never read anything by this author before, this book sounded really interesting and I am so glad I picked it!

Whilst in Ireland for an International Song Competition, Tony Hawks was amazed to see a hitch-hiker, trying to thumb a lift, but with a fridge. This seemed amazingly optimistic - his Irish friends, however thought nothing of it at all. 'I had clearly arrived in a country', writes Tony, 'where the qualifications for 'eccentric' involved a great deal more than that to which I had become used'. Two years pass but the fridge incident haunts our author.

First of all we'd like to say we bought and listened to the abridged version first. This wasn't available at the time and I have to say we enjoyed the abridged version very much. When we came across the unabridged version we bought it too as we loved the other so much we thought it would be nice to hear more of the story.

We enjoyed hearing the whole story, its always a shame what the abridged have to cut out but at the same time we really liked the abridged. I think both are a good read/listen but if we had to pick the abridged made the better audio book. We still enjoyed this one though and continue to listen to both versions. If your a fan of this book most likely you'll want to own both and both are excellent. When you have less time the shorter version is great and when you want longer and more of the story this one is perfect.

Just to add, as husband and wife we both came into this story from different situations. One had heard of this story and Tony before and one had not. We both enjoyed it thoroughly and as the one who had never heard of the book or Tony I thoroughly enjoyed it. I'd say its a great for first timers as well as those that already know of the story or author.

Its a funny great true story, very enjoyable and a great audio book no matter what version you have. If your on the fence give this audio book a chance. I'm sure you'll enjoy it. I'm so glad my husband made us get it, I love it just as much as him and I always look forward to hearing it again. Once you know the story its even better in a way because you can dip in and out if it knowing exactly what's happening.

    Highly Recommended.

Australia is one of the last places where life still exists after nuclear war starts in the Northern Hemisphere. A year on, an invisible cloak of radiation has spread almost completely around the world. Darwin is a ghost town, and radiation levels at Ayres Rock are increasing. An American nuclear-powered submarine has found its way to Australia where its captain has placed the boat under the command of the Australian Navy.

We love this story, we have listened to a dramatized abridged version before and loved it so when we saw this we bought it straight away. It hasn't let us down, it was great to hear the whole story and the narrator did a brilliant job. We have also seen one of the films based on this book which we loved also. Both my husband and I are huge fans of this story. If you've never read or listened to a book from this author before its a great start to his work. I think for us it will always be our favorite book of his, the story is truly touching and its something you'll never forget.

Highly recommended. Great Narrator and a much enjoyed listen. I'm not sure there is much else to say, give it a try and we doubt you'll be disappointed.

Could you survive on your own, in the wild, with everyone out to make sure you don't live to see the morning? In the ruins of a place once known as North America lies the nation of Panem, a shining Capitol surrounded by 12 outlying districts. The Capitol is harsh and cruel and keeps the districts in line by forcing them all to send one boy and one girl between the ages of 12 and 18 to participate in the annual Hunger Games, a fight to the death on live TV.

Both my husband and I love The Hunger Games Trilogy so we leaped at the chance for the audio book. We have read all the books, watched the first film and now started on the audio books. We can't get enough of this brilliant trilogy, the best we have come across in a long time.

We'll start by saying this is suitable for teenagers and above, adults will love it just as much. The first book is fantastic and the narrator has done a brilliant job. Its a joy to listen too and easy to listen, before you know it hours will of passed. We feel seeing the first film has helped, when listening to this book its so much easier to picture everything in your head. I'd say it made our enjoyment of this book even better. It was also nice to read or listen to the book as it covers more than the film. So I'd you have watched the film then you'll love listening to this.

A brilliant story that keeps you gripped from beginning to end. Once you finish this book you'll want to go straight onto the next. Highly recommended, very enjoyable and I know this will be an audio book listened to often and definitely as one of our favorites.

This is one of the better books of the Elle Chronicles and also the last. We have enjoyed the follow ups but found them not as good as the tomorrow series. It has been nice to see what has been happening since but also you wonder can there be too much of a good thing? Its something we've questioned throughout these books.

One major thing to note is the new narrator to the last two books. By the third book you do get used to her which helps a lot. Just to add again, she isn't a bad narrator its just you get used to the one you've had for 8 books (tomorrow series and first of Elle chronicles).

Good story and much enjoyed. Still not as good as tomorrow series though. We would recommend though as we did enjoy the Elle Chronicles.

When we bought this we didn't realize it was by a different narrator. As we have been used to another narrator for all 7 books from the tomorrow series and the first one of the Elle Chronicles its kind of hard to get used to someone else now. Don't get us wrong, she isn't a bad narrator its just hard to have her come in so late. So it took a long time to get used to her in this book, she pronounces characters different, especially Gavin. It did make it harder to listen to the book.

As for the story itself, its good and enjoyable although no where near as good as the tomorrow series. Its this that makes us think should the author of ended it at the end of the tomorrow series? There can be too much of a good thing. Still a good story, interesting read and would still recommend. Just remember a new narrator which takes a lot of getting used too...

The town of Wirrawee is emerging from war, slowly, like a flower after a cold snap. Businesses are starting to reopen, the school has re-commenced classes, and local farmers are gradually repossessing their land. But it's not the same Australia as before the war. A new nation exists just a few miles away, a new border that separates Australia from its invaders. Or does it?

Both me and my husband loved the tomorrow series of books and this is the first of 3 in the follow ups, so of course we had to get this audio book. The best thing is they have used the same narrator which is good, although be warned its the last book with this narrator.

This book is all from Elle, one of the main characters of the tomorrow series. Its great to hear what is happening now so its an enjoyable book. We won't say too much as we don't want to spoil the story for you, its good and with the characters you've grown to love over the tomorrow series.

Still we can't help but think, should the author of done follow ups or left it where it ended in the tomorrow series. Don't get us wrong, this book is great and it is nice to know more but sometimes you do wonder, is it really?

Great story though, enjoyed every moment and would happily recommend. As with the tomorrow series, these books are suitable for all and not just teenagers. We are both adults and thoroughly enjoyed all these books.

I'd be amazed if you didn't love this audio book, the story is great and its narrated brilliantly. As I listen I have images in my head, seeing the first film really adds to the enjoyment as you can imagine even better. I highly recommend this audio book and the others in the trilogy. They are fantastic, definitely in my favorites list.

I have listened to all the other books in this series and loved every single one. I'd like to start by saying I'm in my twenties and loved it. I don't know why they have put this book under age 11-13 when the other books have been under a different age category. This series is great for teenagers and above, written for teens but I still enjoyed it and I'm no longer a teenager.

This is yet another book in this series, it gripped me early on and it was great to hear from the characters I've fallen in love with over the other books as in this book they are older, there lives are moving on yet still bad things keep happening to them.

Incredible story from beginning to end...if you loved the others you'll love this too. Highly Recommended :-).

So we are at the last book of the series, I can't believe this is it...the end. Well technically not as the author wrote three further books called The Elle Chronicles but it ends as we know it.

As with all the other books in this series, the author has yet again done a brilliant job. The book keeps you gripped all the way through and just wanting more. He ended it in a good way and at a place you feel happy as a reader. Its nice to have an ending your happy with as it can be so frustrating when left guessing.

This book shows how the war has affected them all, they are dealing with combat fatigue, self destruction, grief and recovery. The stress is getting worse and worse and Hell is no longer a safe haven for them. They have to fight to keep hell safe, themselves and the kids. In the end they have to blackmail New Zealand to take the kids and then they have to go into battle yet again. Of course it doesn't all go to plan, one of the kids doesn't make it out of Australia and the teens have to take the remaining kid with them to fight another battle.

None of them are coping like they were as its just to much, they don't plan as well as they used too and put themselves at risk. Its just them left, they do their best to follow their instructions from New Zealand. They complete their mission but its not the end of it. Ellie is left by herself, she can't find her friends. She gets caught, has to lie about who she is. She thinks her friends are dead, she goes through an awful lot but in the end she finally escapes and eventually gets to see her mum. So its not all doom and gloom, we wont mention any more but read to find out more....are her friends dead? will they get through the war alive and will it end. What will happen if it does end?

Brilliantly written, keeps you gripped all the way through and the author pulls you in. You can't help but feel everything they are going through. Its the sign of a good author, which he has done all along. Highly Recommended Series!

They are the enemy. And they're still out there. They're in your street, your home, the safest places you know. You feel their hot breath, even in the depths of hell. Ellie and Homer are out there too. Lee and Fi and Kevin. They've forgotten what it means to be safe. Sometimes they feel like there's nowhere left for them. They may be right.

This book starts with them still in Stratton, Ellie is worried about the street kids they have found whilst staying in Stratton and goes off to try and help them with Lee. In the end they rescue the kids and have to flee Stratton because the enemy is after them. Where do they go? the only safe place they know is hell so that's where they go. The kids don't make it easy, they make it to the bush but the kids don't want to stay.

Its not all about the kids though, although of course its a huge part of it. Trying to look after them and keep them safe whilst staying safe them self and fighting this war. They decide to celebrate Christmas, to keep them all going and give them something to live for. This plan doesn't go as easily as they hoped, you still get some action as some of the teens go off to raid for food. The question still remains, are they safe in hell? maybe they can't take it for granted anymore...

This story will keep you wanting more, it might not be as action packed as some of the others but its still good. Its not easy for anyone and they are all struggling, war is hard and it changes who you are.

Highly Recommended. As we have said about his other books in the series, these books are suitable for all and not just for teens. We are adults and we have enjoyed every single book in this series. The author writes brilliantly and pulls you into the story and the narrator well she is fantastic too. She adds to the enjoyment of the book and we couldn't imagine these books being read by anyone else.
