"Not a Thriller"
If am confused with the positive ratings that some have given this novel. I spend a lot of time driving long distances and find listening to thrillers an ideal way to relax when stuck in traffic.
Some of the thrillers I have recently listened to such the Forgotten by David Baldacci have caused me to remain in the car once I have arrived at my destination as they were absolutely riveting.
It is crucial that the book I am listening to is exciting, not dull and tedious or the journey feels like it is taking longer than it actually is.
I listened to over half this book before, I made the decision to sack it, it just wasn't getting interesting. This is the first time I have not finished an audio book or bothered to write a review.
Take my advice and try another book.
"average"
it didn't make me want to smile, cry or make me angry or sad ...very predictable pulp fiction.
"Very disappointed"
Most of this book seemed suited to an adolescent. Towards middle of Part 2 and a lot of Part 3 was OK but I felt for most of it that I was too old (62).
"What a disappointment!"
I read all the reviews and was really looking forward to a good thrilling read. The book started well and hearing the story from 2 perspectives was an interesting twist. I was gripped for the first few chapters, but then it turned into a sour, angry, outpouring of bitterness and lust for retribution. The characters became hateful and I found myself not really caring what happened to them. I rarely throw books that I have paid for away, but after I had finished the last chapter, I deleted it disgust.
"Couldn't put it down!!"
I loved the twists in this audiobook...cost me sleep as simply could not stop listening!!! Was wonderful. Great readers too.
"Great Book, very poor ending"
I loved this book, couldn't wait to hear the next twist and turn, of which there were many, and was listening whenever I could, was a superb book, until the ending, when it seems like the writer had run out of ideas, and finished the book with a very poor conclusion which left me feeling that I had wasted a lot of time listening to the book. Enjoyed both narrators.
"What really??"
I got this book as highly recommended everywhere The voices for the audiobook were really annoying and did not add anything to the story Basically I felt as if I should read it to the end as I expected to suddenly love it as everyone else seems to do I gave up halfway before Christmas and had to drag myself back to it last week and finished it today
I won't say too much as don't want to spoil the plot but basically all the characters especially Nick and Amy are not interesting and to be honest I have wished that Nick could have been spirited away with Amy at the beginning to save us the annoyance of reading They are both toxic and really felt no empathy or understanding with either of them and felt they deserved each other They may be a product of their family life and upbringing but who cares 'Go' Nicks sister is totally spineless and again no empathy with her The plot was so unbelievable in parts especially re planting finger print evidence sperm storage and use etc Does not ring true and as such no value I wish I hadn't wasted my time reading on to the end Would give it zero star if I could I really cannot imagine why it is so popular!
"Excellent"
Great story, and fantastic value. Hours and hours of listening - and never a dull moment.
Spent a chapter or two getting accustomed to the American accents, but they did grow on me (just as well as there's about 18 hours of audio). After that, really enjoyed the book, and having two narrators was excellent - wouldn't have been nearly so good with only one.
Only problem now is i've got to find something else to replace it, and not sure it will be as good.
"Totally unpredictable"
This book was totally unpredictable. As soon as I thought I knew what was going to happen, I was proved wrong. Having both a male and female reader made it easy to follow and separate both their stories. At times the emotion in the words and voices were incredibly powerful. I would strongly recommend this audiobook.
"Very Dissapointed"
This is my first audio story and I picked it based on positive reviews. At the beginning, I was not enjoying it but I stuck with it, and without giving too much away, the story then became interesting. This new found interest was short lived and as the plot unravelled, the story became very unbelievable, as it was full of holes to say the least. I am no crime expert, but even I could have unravelled Amy's story. Has the author never heard of witnessess, alibis, forensics etc
There was an attempt to address these issues, but it wasn't thorough enough, therefore it wasn't realistic writing. As a reader, if you dont find the story dissapointing enough, the ending will blow your mind, though not in a good way.
