    "Enjoyed this hugely..."

A fantastic and enjoyable story. Sometimes heavy on detail - that's exactly what I like. Characters have depth and are well drawn. People are imperfect - the main protagonist makes his fair share of mistakes and is far from perfect. Like the cast, the world in which the story is set is realised with fantastic detail and a rich mixture of cultures. I was relieved towards the end to realise that part two (The Wise Man's Fear) was already available.

Rupert Degas does a fantastic job of narration. How many distinct voices can one person employ - and remember!? Brilliant - he really brings the story to life.

If you like in-depth, long (it is) stories - beautifully narrated - buy this, it will not disappoint.

    "Fantastic book and narration"

Be warned - once you start listening to this book you are going to lose days of your life listening fanatically, so make sure you start at a convenient moment! As already mentioned, the fantastic narration by Rupert Degas adds another dimension - he goes from one character voice to another without missing a beat - truly impressive. I have just finished both parts of this first book and was delighted to see the second book waiting for me when I came to look today - can't wait to dive back in again!

    "Terrific Narrator!"

I love this book, and decided to use my accumulating Audible credits to buy the audiobook version as well. I'm so glad I did! Kvothe's tale is as good as ever, but the real highlight for me is the narration. Rupert Degas breathes life into the story, and has a wonderful range of voices and accents to give each character a seperate identity. (I've listened to more than one audiobook where the narration is so flat and unemotional it's like listening to a shopping list!) I particularly liked Ambrose's voice - clipped, nasal, and sounding uncannily like Prince Charles.

Even an excellent book can be killed by a poor narrator, but Rupert Degas is one of the best!

Do buy this. If you liked the book, you'll love the audio version.

"Superb Narration of an engaging story"

The book is slow-paced in a wonderful way, a story that knows how to take its time. The narration is the best I've heard in hundreds of audiobooks. Unmissable for any fan of the genre.

    "Absolutely stunning."

100% agreed with the other high ratings here. Patrick Rothfuss really does manage to transport you into another world, Kvothe's world. It is a story that is utterly engrossing and very moving. I found whilst listening to this audio version if I closed my eyes I really did feel like I was that other person in the room.

The narration by Rupert Degas is absolutely brilliant, his voice really does carry the story to another level. This is a great audio book and if you like these fantasy stories you'll do no wrong in getting these books. Personally, I like many others [I'm sure] cannot wait for Patrick Rothfuss to release the third instalment of Kvothe's story.

    "Fantastic!"

This is the first audiobook I have listened to without having already read the book beforehand. Therefore, I had no idea if it was a good story. I wasn't dissapointed! The story is brilliant and gripping from start to finish, the characters are all so well written and believable, even the minor ones who only appear for a short while. Finally, as for the narration, by Rupert Degas well it is simply the best I have come across to date. He is superb, and has a huge range of voices, making every character who appears seem different from tha last. I even thought at one point that it must've been a women reading the female parts, but it is not! I didn't want it to end, and when it did I screamed with depair as I was halfway though a journey. Needless to say, I bought Part 2 as soon as I got home.

    Story
    "Fast and Furious"

Of all the books I have listened to from Audible, and there have been dozens, this one is up at the top of the list. It has a furious start with a fight with mystical figure and then settles into a really good "bedtime story" as the author tells the story of the main character and his troubled life up to the beginning of the story. Great characterisation with all that you would want from a fantasy. I was there every step of the way.

Extremely well written, but sometimes a story is let down by the narator. Not this time the narator helps the story along and draws you in. I could not put it down and downloaded part 2 as soon as my credits allowed.

    "Breathtaking!"

Patrick Rothfuss has created a world of great depth and complexity. Once you've set foot - or ear - in it, you will not want to leave again. The characters are three-dimensional and true, and the story is exciting like a thriller.

Rupert Degas' narration is wonderfully seductive and graphic, compelling you to share and feel the joy and pain of the characters. I've never heard anything better or even as good as this. I highly recommend it.
