"Could not stop listening"
I have liked all of Macbrides books and this is no exception. He never disappoints. I was unsure because it was not about his usual Aberdonian characters but it was a great read, gritty and real with unexpected twists to the story line. And the narrator was spot on.
"Too gruesome"
I haven't read any of this author's books before so was not sure what I expected. The plot had sounded interesting but as the plot focused so much on the main character which I just couldn't like I did not enjoy it. There was much to much violence by the "good guys".
"Couldn't put it down"
I've read most of Martina Coles books and so must enjoy this type of "read". I couln't stop listening and enjoyed every moment of Birthdays for the Dead. The Characters were colourful and I found myself tranported as the story unfolded. I had no idea "who dunnit" another bonus. Really enjoyed both the story and the narator.
"Horrific"
I have read or listened to all of Mr MacBride's previous offerings and this is the most graphic (gratuitously so) to date. I physically squirmed and pulled faces of distaste, disbelief and horror whilst listening. Most unpleasant - please go back to DS McRae and your thoroughly enjoyable Tartan Noir.
