"A laugh a minute!"
This is by far the best audiobook that I've ever listened to. I love Partridge and Steve Coogan has written an excellent biography which is so clever and witty. I laughed so many times. I will listen to this again and again. I just hope that he brings out another one.
"Brilliant"
Makes me feel a film or another series is on the way as it it so well constructed and brilliantly executed. I've always been a fan of steve coogan, partridge being my favourite and was worried he may be past his best since seeing a show on his last tour, but this reaffirms why i fell in love with his comedy. Listened in the car for a week a chapter at a time and couldn't stop laughing in places, te rewind it back to listen again. Loved his chapter about his wife. All in all the best audiobook i've ever listened to. He's a real pro.
"Brilliant Book"
I had purchased the hard copy of the book but when i found out there was an audio book narrated by Steve Coogan himself i had to get it. The book doesnt disappoint. The only problem is in places the quality of the audio becomes very weak, however that being said overal it is a great audio book.
"Not quite funny enough"
I love Steve Coogan, and this book does make you smile with all the silliness and self infatuation that is Alan Partridge, but it does get repetitive. I just feel I've seen it, it's not new and fresh anymore. So I would say, if you want to meander down memory lane with 'I, Partridge', then this will be a nice relaxing way for you to spend a few afternoon walks. I felt my afternoon walks could be more usefully spent by dropping this halfway through.
"I love Partridge, but not this time"
Alan Partridge is my favourite comic character but this book is flabby. It has it's moments, but in reality the best moments are when we get get Alan's inside thoughts on the classic chat show episodes or re-hashed memories from the subsequent TV series. Nothing new in the book really rivals what we've had before.
The narration by the man himself is almost worth a fourth star.
"Disappointing"
I'm afraid I have to agree with the other reviewers who felt this book was lacking.
I too love the Alan Partridge character, and in fairness this book has prompted me to invest in some Alan Partridge DVD's (and the salesman in me would say that's what it set out to do).
And that's what I felt was wrong with this book - as you listen you're reminded of all the funny events in the shows without getting the full payoff. And so I'm sure if I hadn't seen the shows I would have found this book a lot more entertaining as I'd have nothing to compare it to. But as it stands, apart from the stuff about his younger years, it feels almost like an 'also available' advert. And if Alan wasn't narrating I don't think I would have made it past the first chapter (I've stopped 4 hours in with no desire to go further).
But that being said it looks like I'm in a minority with this opinion. And in fairness it is humorous in a lot of places. And there are laugh out loud moments, albeit spaced too far apart.
Bottom line is- If you've got a few spare credits in your account and you like Alan Partridge then definitely get this. Just don't expect it to be as funny as the shows it describes.
"A great Closing(?) Chapter for Partridge"
Hilarious, Re-listenable, grin fest superbly narrated by the man himself.
If you know the 3 TV series well this takes us back through those years filling in the gaps and revealing very funny backgrounds to the events.
Highly recommend the Audiobook over the paperbook. Just excellent.
"Brilliant!"
For fans of Alan Partridge - this is brilliant! It had me laughing all the way through and is well worth a go. Loved it.
"I Partridge"
So many funny bits in this book its worth listening to at least twice as there will be funny one liners you have missed. Very very funny, despite the odd start
"I love Partridge but..."
...5hrs of him is pushing it - it's a good ish book and if you're easily amused you'll love it - the sort of person who laughs out loud when somebody swears...sadly I'm a bit more Jack Dee and it barely raised a smile...
