"great story, mostly good narration"
I love the storytelling and plot. I thought it may have been too complicated for audiobook but I've completely enjoyed it. Some characters have strange and unexpected accents that dont always fit, but mostly good narration.
"Fantastic"
Like part one this epic adventure continues with a wonderful reader and an epic storyline that will make any other book seem simplistic!
"One of the best things I've listened to"
These series of books is a must, everyone should have them in their collection, really good plot twists, with cunning and deciept around every corner, added with a fabulous Roy dotrice reading them made it even more enjoyable
"Fear cuts deeper than swords..."
There the Song of Ice and Fire truly begins. I loved this book, and i could not put it down. being a watcher of the series this was how i first got into the book, however it was not long before i put the series aside and delved into the world of westeros. I think Roy Dotrice is a fantastic narrator!
"Adds so much story from the TV series"
Having watched the 1st season twice now and still having answered questions on the background story and characters, I found the audiobook add so much more story and meaning for the characters.
"brilliant! (Part Two)"
It's not hard to tell why this is one of the most loved fantasy series ever. And this part of the story is where it all kicks off. All of those characters you meet along the way and all the locations you are swinging between come together to a brilliant and ever epic ending that pretty much buys the next book for you, it's inevitable. Again brilliantly narrated by Roy Dotrice in this audio book version. I listen to it all the time in the car on the way to and from work and i can't wait for my next journey with a clash of kings.
"Tyrion from the Valleys"
It does take a while to 'tune into' this book - especially with Roy Dotrice's accents wandering slightly over the first hour or so. Once that settles down however, you can start enjoying what is a well-placed, adult-themed piece of fantasy literature. The plot borrows from a variety of different sources, but it combines the different elements in a new and, for the most part, interesting way. There are 3-4 main stories and different readers will find their own preferred strand of the tale. Being the first of a series of books no one should expect everything to be resolved by the last page, indeed you will probably left with more questions than answers. The one piece of advice I do have is to get hold of a copy of a map of Westeros via the internet so you can better familiarise yourself with the geography of the world. Overall, provided you can cope with a Welsh accented Tyrion Lannister, this book is really well worth a listen
"A review of parts 1 and 2"
I have to say,i discovered this world after getting into the tv show.I have various books to read but find audiobooks a more convenient way of getting through them. This Game of Thrones has been the best audio book experience...ever!!!!.
Just listening to the words written by Mr Martin is wonderous, and to have them, and the characters enhanced and brought to life by the amazing Roy Dotrice, made me listen to chapters again...
I actually enjoyed this better than the tv show..and that was fantastic in its own right..Glad to see Roy Dotrice is onboard for all the other books in the tremendous series.
I cannot praise this enough..it is that good!
Listen, enjoy and immerse yourself into this epic world.
"Brilliant!"
This series is filled with so much detail, you really feel like you're there. Written as a sort of fantasy/middle ages novel (kings, swords, dragons). What I really love is that each chapter is written from the perspective of a different character, so there's an over-arching story but told from several angles. You get really drawn into the characters and the plot has some interesting twists. Oh, and Roy Dotrice has a voice that makes me melt.
Part 2: You'll be completely drawn in by this point if you've already listened to part 1, not much else to say.
"Enjoyable book, excellent narration"
I very much enjoyed this book. The story is rich and multi-layered with a dizzying (but graspable) array of characters and sub-plots. It is considerably more explicit in terms of sex & violence than the norm for this genre though. Roy Dotrice's narration is excellent he brings the entire world of Westeros to life, very enjoyable to listen to.
