"beautiful imagination"
Lots of friends described Life of Pi as 'difficult to get into' when they tried to read it. For those, I would totally recommend listening to it as an alternative - as it's utterly spell binding. Yann Martel describes such odd events in such exquisite detail that it's hard to believe he did not experience the events first hand. Absolutely brilliant!
"Thought provoking adventure story"
I bought this book on the recommendation of a friend. The adventure story was great fun and enjoyable. I was nicely surprised that the story was complimented by a lot of thought provoking sections about faith, God, human behaviour and animal rights. I would strongly recommend it to other readers.
"Worth a read"
This book I would imagine is far easier as an audio book than a reading book... Some parts in the beginning to be honest are hard going, I would imagine it would be easy to give up with it. As an audio book it is somewhat easier and I would recommend it! It's a very funny book, some parts are hard to believe, the ending is a bit peculiar and not what you would expect.... It's hard to explain without giving the book away.,. I enjoyed it though !
"Astonishing journey"
A voyage that changed a boy's life. How much pain and desperation one can endure? An astonishing journey of life and faith.
Really enjoyed the book, not only because it is a great story, but also the narrator's voice, which is very important for me when choose an audio book.
"Really very good"
Having never read the book or seen the film I didn't have much of a clue as to what to expect from Life of Pi, but what I got was an engaging, exciting and surprising tale of true grit and bewildering belief. I loved it. I mourned its ending; my bus commute may never be the same again. Thank you Audible.
"In love of detail"
This book HAS to be listened to! I would have got bored reading it as the amount of detail given is amazing. Listening to every sound, smell and sensation that Pi went through on the boat puts you in his place and makes you feel as if you were there experiencing it with him. The reader is very clear and pronounced so listening as an English as a second language is also possible. Great to listen to in the car on a long journey. A MUST! Download it now.
"Accessible for young son"
My 12 year old dyslexic son was given the book for his birthday by a school friend. He was unable to read it and had been bluffing to his friend that he had read it. By getting this audio version he can now discuss it with his friends. He was gripped by this book and we had to forcibly remove his iPod late at night!
"The Life of Pi - falls short of expectation."
I’d heard so much about the book and the film, but not having read the first or seen the latter I thought that this audiobook would be a good choice for in car listening. The story was entertaining enough and I’m glad that I listened to it, but it didn’t leave me wanting to read the book or see the film. There were definitely sections where I was tempted to reach for the fast forward button. There were parts too where Jeff Woodman’s attempted accents made me cringe. Apart from the questionable accents, the recording was generally clear and well spaced. However, the biggest frustration was that the recording cut off before the end of the last sentence, which left me seeking out a copy of the book to find how it all ended. Rather disappointed.
"Makes the film seem average"
A really great listen, containing much more detail (as usual) then the film. Definitely worth a listen!
"Adventures at High Sea..."
I found this to be very enjoyable listen an the speaker sounds just like the older actor in the film, the narrator speaks so well that if you close your eyes you could be sat right next to Pi an Richard Parker the tiger ,wishing him more adventures. I believe I've heard Life of Pi three or four times and will continue to listen to it. I would recommend it to anyone who likes adventure stories...
