"Well read but drawn out"
Lets start by saying I enjoyed the book. The book is well read but it flows a little likje treacle at times. And in parts it is more than a little predictable.
The concept is novel and well conceived. As with a lot of Mathew Reilly the action just keeps on going. I think what makes this only four star is the action is at times too far fetched and almost obvious before you hear it. I know it's fiction but you need a little crediblity when you get your hero out of an impossible situation. I think this would be better rewritten to stop the obvious play for suspense which sees you waiting for the part after the one you are listening to. I actually found myself wnating to hear te story but tempted to fast forward through a bit to get somewhere.
"Griping and fast paced epic from a master"
This is a James Patterson must have! From the start you are left in no doubt you need to listen to everything, miss something and you will wonder what you missed, and you can be sure it will be important later on.
Private captures what patterson is good at having several plot lines running simeoultaneously and blending them seamlessly into a fantastic novel. each sub plot here is a gripping yarn in its own right. The main story is actually really about the characters them selves but it is so cleverly weaved in the tales that you almost don't realise you are being lead through them. This is clever writing and enthralling story telling.
I am not sure there is a better way to spend thirteen hours of your listening time.
"great plot but a little over done"
The plot ideas are great and the action fast and at times full on. The oration is great and it is very well read.
The writing style leads to some parts of it jumping forward in quite large jumps, and this meakes it feel a little disjointed at times.
All in all a good listen in the car its very easy to take in several sessions, plenty of good places to 'take a break.' It could have done with more filling in to give atmosphere, for me one to listen to and then forget not a revisit book.
"As fast and actioned packed as you can get!"
The first of the 'Scarecrow' series this introduces the main characters and sets the pace for all Matthew Reilly's Novels.
Pure Escapism with unbelievable twists and turns and more lucky and creative escapes than the love child of Blackadder and Houdini.
Set in a snowy ice blasted hell hole you won't believe how much action fits in such a small area.
If you haven't heard any of these yet you will download more once you have heard this one Guaranteed!
"Another great romp that never stops"
Matthew Reilly Delivers another fast paced gripping tale. The reading is first class and the speed of the novel means there is never a good place to take a break. I have slowed down en route to appointments to make sure I got through a particular bit.
This is a bit darker than the previous 'scarecrow' novels and there are a few nasty surprises in store for the listener. If you have heard the previous stories in this series then stop reading tis review and download this one NOW!!
"The reading lets it down"
I have read the books and seen the TV series, and thoroughly enjoyed both. The author is able to transport you back to a slower pace of life, and to a place where life was far more pleasurable. This will always be one of the greatest biographies ever written as it is full of so many wonderful characters.
However, the audio book is let down by one great flaw. Whilst Chris Timothy was well cast as James, and is a fine actor. He is not able to imbibe all characters with enough uniqueness to hold the listener. It actually became dissapointing as at points I needed to take a break from what sounded a very flat reading of what should have been a wonderful story.
I would buy these again if read by another more adept reader.
"A Novel from now for now that makes you think"
This is one for all conspiracy theorists, and also for anyone who just likes a good book. fast and full of action. This is Crichton at his best, blending fact and fiction seamlessly. a genuine thinking man's (or woman's) novel.
If you think you know anything about global warming and conspiracy think again and listen to this.
This is one to keep in the collection / Ipod and listen to more than once
"A classic from the BBC"
It is dated and tacky in places - who am i kidding all the way through - but it is a real blast from the past for any of us that hark back to an era that dared dream about space travel and the future in this way. It is now a classic a real collectors piece. I actually felt transported back to listening round a valve radio.
To younger ears this will grate and jar and leave you wanting but to those that hail from the 50s and 60 this is a must just for the nostalgia
"Transort yourself straight back 60 years"
