  • "A great read."

A very interesting listen, I learned much from this writer about the hard times of the famine, indeed I often wonder if any of my Fathers relations would have lived through this time, one cannot help to feel the pain and suffering of the time.

In 1845, a disaster struck Ireland. Overnight, a mysterious blight attacked the potato crops, turning the potatoes black and destroying the only real food of nearly six million people. Over the next five years, the blight attacked again and again. These years are known today as the Great Irish Famine, a time when one million people died from starvation and disease and two million more fled their homeland.

Rebecca's greatest hits:
  • The Little Prince

"Every Adult should listen to this book"

    Overall

Every adult that thinks that they're super-grown-up should listen to this book, especially those that think that it's a book for kids that they would never ever read.

Meet The King, The Important Man who is more like a mushroom, the sheep in a box, The Vain Rose, The Drunkard, our protagonist and of course The Little Prince, who once he has hold of a question, will never be fobbed off with an unsatisfactory answer or lie.

Arguably a manual on how not to take oneself so seriously. Yet profoundly funny and moving. Lovely.

  • "Totally terrific!"

    6 of 7 helpful votes

As soon as I saw this audiobook listed I snapped it up! I had first read the book over 30 years ago and it had a fond place in my memory, therefore I had always planned to read it again. I was delighted to see it listed on Audible and I was not disappointed.

The story is terrific - a real adventure with likeable characters and a real sense of history. The pace of the story is also very pleasing and the addition of some very pleasant music to punctuate the chapters is a nice touch.

This book was originally written for children/young teenagers and I was 11 when I first read it. Now in my 40s, I still found it a great story. And the narration was excellent too!

My favourite Audible download to date!

The girls grow up amidst the turmoils, adventures and hardships of the American Civil War.There is Meg, the eldest, plump and fair; Jo, the tomboy who longs to be a writer and fights against the constraints of her sex; Beth, shy, timid and delicate, who brings out the protective instinct in others; and Amy, the youngest and brightest and, at least in her own estimation, the most important.
