Forty years ago, Harriet Vanger disappeared from a family gathering. Her body was never found, yet her uncle is convinced it was murder - and that the killer is a member of his own family. He employs journalist Mikael Blomkvist and the tattooed, truculent computer hacker Lisbeth Salander to investigate.

When the pair link Harriet's disappearance to a number of grotesque murders from forty years ago, they begin to unravel a dark and appalling family history. But the Vangers are a secretive clan, and Blomkvist and Salander are about to find out just how far they are prepared to go to protect themselves.

The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo

This book is slow to 'get going' and at first it was a bit confusing. For the first half an hour I wasn't sure whether I had made a mistake in choosing it - but after that I was hooked, and spent two days compulsively listening!

It's a brilliant story, well written and well read.

This book is very slow to get started and sometimes I find it confusing with names and places although I think that's because it has been adapted to English but once it's started after about an hour or so you won't be able to stop listen to it is one of the best stories I've ever heard this book is absolutely brilliant

This took quite a while to get into, but is well worth the wait. The journalistic style is quite tedious when sifting through all the background, but I guess the scene has to be set some how. This has to be listened to though if only so you can get on to the next two stories which are amazing
