Avalon High, Ellie's new school, is pretty much what she'd expected. There's Lance, the hunky footballer; Jennifer, the cute cheerleader; Marco, the troublemaker. And then there's Will, the most gorgeous guy Ellie's ever met. She can hardly believe he likes her. When Will says he thinks he's met Ellie before, things start getting a little weird. A feeling that grows as Ellie discovers the strange bonds that entwine Will, Lance, Jen, Marco, and herself. As darkness turns to danger, can Ellie stop the horrific chain of events that is about the engulf them all?

Critics Reviews

"Well done with good characters and a good dose of style." (School Library Journal)
"Debra Wiseman's portrayal of Elaine as she works through her suspicions helps achieve the story's believability. Her depictions of other key characters further enrich the story, and her poetic pacing of passages from The Lady of Shalott at the opening of each chapter has just the right touch." (AudioFile)
"Using a selection from Tennyson's classic Lady of Shalott to set up each chapter, Cabot delivers a clever modern take on Arthurian legend, which moves swiftly along to a satisfying, tender conclusion. An entertaining novel that will attract new Cabot [fans]." (Booklist)

I like Meg Cabot's work, its not so heavy going as others, mainly Stephanie Meyer and the onslaught of the Twilight fandom. Instead Meg Cabot offers just as serious stories about the trial of the teenage realm, the dilemas of first love etc but also does it with a balance to reality and comedy. I like this one because it delves into the realm of fantasy as well and does so beautifully. But Ellie, unlike Bella, firmly refuses to abandon reality just like that and is always looking for the more sensible, mundane explanation. Its a beautiful satirically look on american high school life and holding it up to medieval court life and showing that in the end there are many universals that transcend time and place. LOVE CONQUERS ALL, but at the same time life is still everyday enough for the main characters. Brilliant fun.
