Ah ha - at last one that actually works!

No corny characterisation, no contrived dialogues, no disk space squandered on irritating jingles or pretentious sound effects.
This course treats the listener not as an idiot in need of frivolous amusement, but as a mature and serious student. You won't be parroting sentences from the phrase book, but actually learning how to construct your own sentences and think for yourself. You'll get a good mental workout, but it's far from dreary, driven as it is by the energy and charisma of a gifted and veteran teacher.
Despite what the blurb says, Michel Thomas' is not a "new" method at all - it's just classes, as you'd have at university or language school.
In my search for serious and effective learning material, this is the first course I've found that I actually felt did the job.

The method works.

The method works and makes sense. It's like being in a class room. And one of the things that helps the most, is that the time is taken to explain things. What I personally do not find helpful, is that it seems to be rushed and pushed a bit. There is a lot of information given in a short period of time, and it carries on, as well as changes to other things too quickly. As well there is no pause in the recording for a proper response from the listener, when asked how to say something. Most of the time the listener is speaking over the voices, which I find annoying and distracting. Over all though, I find this to be among one of the better language learning audio recordings.
