Summary

The first in the series of the classic fantasy tales – The Chronicles of Narnia.

Written after The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe but designed by C.S.Lewis to be read first, this enchanting prequel – with its story of time travel, sorcery and magic rings – is essential reading for anyone who wants to learn the backstory to the biggest movie release of the year. Hurled back in time to the birth of a new world, two young friends get caught in the epic struggle between Aslan and his nemesis the White Witch.

On 9 December 2005, Andrew (Shrek) Adamson’s live-action film adaptation of The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe will be released by Disney, and it is already being hailed as the biggest film franchise of all time, guaranteed to appeal to adults and children across the globe. The second film is already in development.

“When I was ten, I read fairy tales in secret. Now that I am fifty I read them openly. When I became a man I put away childish things, including the fear of childishness.” C S Lewis

Amazing!! Loved every second. Beautifully read.

Its humbling, the mastery with which C.S Lewis writes. As a fellow writer i consider myself better than most (and modestly so, in this day, where everyone thinks they can do it). Reading this i feel joined in a certain ghastly unity to the "can do commoner" as we struggle to string sentences together to create meagre sparks as oposed to the full blazing fire Lewis commands with such seeming splendor. Narnia is - and i sadly suspect will always be - one of the best books one can ever read.

fabulous

I read this as a teen and now in my 30s Branagh delivers an absolute knockout performance. such an intriguing story with religious undertones but just a beautiful story and an unfortunate but fascinating peice reflecting the time and inequality. loved every minute

Excellent

This may not be the most well-known in the Narnia series, but Kenneth Branagh completely brings it to life in this audio version. I bought this for my children to listen to in the car but my husband and I have also enjoyed listening to the story that tells you how it all began... Wonderful! Well worth a listen.

Escape to Another World

Having never read the Narnia books, this was a great way to start listening to the collection.

Kenneth did a great job at narrating the book. It made you feel as if you had escaped with the children to Narnia.

I’m excited to read the rest of the collection of books.

Great story

We disliked Fledge’s voice. We thought the rest of it was great. An engaging audiobook!

The real Narnian origin

Branagh is great in this first book of Narnia, with all the heartwarming tics we expect from C.S Lewis in his veiled origin for the beginning of this narrative epic.

Excellent unabridged version

Adorable reading of a children's classic. Most enjoyable of all was the badger with a vaguely Scouse accent!!!!!
